You forgot to mention a big disadvantage that Brexit brought for Brits living in Europe who didn't bother regularising their situation and becoming permanent residents. They have lost access to national health care in Europe. And given the demographics of British expats (loads of retirees) that is a major loss.

I have a small cat and been worried over the stress of a long journey for her when I move. As well as tying it in with my arrival, furniture move etc. Vueling fly to Granada and allow <8kg pets in the cabin for £45 (not the hold). Good news for me as Granada is just 90 mins from my house. Far cheaper than an overland pet transport fee.

Hi Skatz...it's been months since I last visited your channel, so I've just learned with shock about your cancer diagnosis and treatment. So first let me give you every best wish for a full and speedy recovery. <hug> Well, I've a few very small things to note about banks in Spain, in case it's helpful to anyone: - I've been in Spain, and self-employed here, for 6 years. When I arrived I got an account with CaixaBank because it was around the corner and because my colleague's bank (ING) wouldn't let me have an account before having a 'green card' (chicken/egg). - I've had very little contact with the bank in that time (I try to just to access on-line.) - Anyway, just now I'm buying a house, and it looks like I'll be getting a mortgage with a different bank (Santander). - In the UK, the government forced banks to implement a simple automatic system to switch bank accounts, but there's nothing like that in Spain. To get a good mortgage deal I have to pay Social Security from Santander, but they said to convert all direct debits takes a long time, so 'switching an account' UK-style is a bad idea. - Another surprise was about the "insurances", a bit like you mentioned. Mortgage interest rates get 1% added to them, which can then be taken off again by buying their products, according to some complicated rules which may or may not be clearly communicated, depending on the bank. For example: 0.1% per €100 annual insurance premium paid, to a maximum discount of 0.5%. More off for getting their security alarm subscription, and so on. Then there can be more premiums to buy your self out of a penalty for paying-off early, and again for buying yourself out of a set-up fee/higher interest for the first several months.

The EU is an organization, with pros and cons. You have to deal with that. As the most EU citizens I see more benefits and can deal with the difficulties. If someone decides to leave - that’s up to them - but please: take it and go on with your live, be happy with your new chances and deal with the downsides. Take it as it comes, and stop complaining. And please: Don’t call yourself ‚expat‘ when you’re an immigrat. Only Brits call themselves expats while all others are immigrants.
