Designers for the Future, ENVIRONMENTS — MIT MAD Part 3 Replay / May 1, 2024
Watch the Part 3 replay from our May 1, 2024 "Designers for the Future" event - three short presentations and a panel conversation dedicated to the theme of "Environments."
Since its launch in October 2022, the MIT Morningside Academy for Design (MAD) has fostered an interdisciplinary design culture at MIT, addressing pressing societal and environmental challenges.
The event which took place at the MIT Museum as part of Boston Design Week featured three generations of Design Fellows: the inaugural 2022 cohort, the current 2023 group, and the newly selected 2024 designers.
Through short presentations and conversations, the Fellows explore how design is fundamental in solving environmental, health, and technical challenges through the themes of Bodies, Objects, and Environments.
-- SPEAKERS --
* JAMES BRICE
James investigates the design of nature-based solutions for coastal adaptation with oyster reefs, working to provide coastal communities with the guidance to create physically, ecologically, and socially resilient waterfronts.
* DENÍ LÓPEZ
Dení utilizes design in Participatory Action Research (PAR) to address community needs and advocate for social justice, particularly in disaster risk management. By integrating design, she develops problem-solving strategies, bridges theory and real-world applications, and enhances community engagement with a focus on Zapotec communities in southern Mexico.
* ELIJAH MARTIN
Elijah focuses on understanding the environmental fate of a variety of plastics, in order to develop design rules for more sustainable polymers and systems that still meet consumer needs.

at 0:55 it says "gullible" at the top
It's the famous anti-Semite from MIT!
This girl loves herself WAYYY too much
I love that, how its human and flows, most of these pieces, but the tunnel valve system looking one suspended mid air is what I'm talking about! I want more of that in contrast to urban spaces straight lines.
Phenomenal work! ❤
I want to study there
Beautiful performance & presentation. Such a fascinating exploration of ideas and a really interesting panel chat, too!
spending all that money to go all the way across the world to show some people how to make a chimney, who should know how to make a chimney, while Americans go hungry and our homeless population soars. I hope you and the people who funded your dumb project are happy.
"Chip-pee-wah" .. did you really pronounce it like that dude? How uncultured. How uninclusive. You should be advocating for these GIANT corporations and woke universities give their land back to anyone with ancestry tracing back to these indigenous tribes. This is the only way to prove you are not a racist, uncultured, culturally insensitive, bigot Trumper.
Interesting 🤔
Instead of simply empty land acnolgements, why not give some of the land MIT sits on back to the indigenous people they stole it from? Win win.
Giant organizations with 1000s of acres aren’t the problem, you on your fractional acre are the problem.
All land is stolen at one point or another, even if you gave it back to a traceable tribe it's almost guaranteed they stole it from someone else.
Once they admit guilt, it logically follows. This guy doesn't have the authority to give back anything. He lively would not listen to an indigenous person, let alone grant them "greater" authority and never authority.
They never owned the land. They just lived there. Just like we do.
Indians were conquered. It’s not their land now. They have no rights to it. There is no obligation to make them whole for it. If they wanted to keep what was once theirs, then they should have defeated their enemy.
funky
Interesting!
I ❤ MIT one day i will study there
