Quick holdfast improvement
มุมมอง 792 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently bought four new holdfasts from Gramercy, tools for working wood, And found that they were not working well in my new maple bench which is 3 1/2 inches thick. A quick fortification with some sandpaper, and now they’re creating a great hold
Grain direction with hand planes
มุมมอง 813 ปีที่แล้ว
Had a walnut board that demonstrates the concept well, thought I’d share it quickly. This was using a number 5 1920’s Stanley Bailey with the original blade that I had just sharpened to 8000 and honed. The cut was a bit deep because I was just cleaning it up quickly. I have the mouth on this open about an eighth. Used mostly to help dimension wood.

Japanese tool chest
มุมมอง 3916 ปีที่แล้ว
After struggling to bring my tools over to a friend's house, I decided to make a tool chest. This is a Japanese inspired chest, with a sliding lock on the top. The basic plan came from a SketchUp plan I found, but it was heavily modified. Mahogany with cherry on the top, pins are in Walnut.

    That's still not wide enough to worry about even heat across the bend. It might take a length of copper tube with that heat fed in.

    It would help if you added subtitles to your video as the hot air gun drowns out your voice.

    I have a piece that has a bend I want to unbend it to make it straight. Is that possible?

    • @toddlarsen6215
      @toddlarsen6215 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given HOW the plastic bends (stretching one side and compressing the other), likely not with a nice smooth outcome.

    My heat gun has attchments that can narrow the heat gun area to a more concentrated region, may help with tighter bends if no mould is available?

      I would recommend using a form if you can, you will get a more reproducible result

    Hi, It will work with hair dryer?

    • @Rothew1
      @Rothew1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think a hair dryer will be hot enough.

    • @toddlarsen6215
      @toddlarsen6215 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They really aren’t designed to get this hot. That isn’t an expensive heat gun (Harbor Freight) but note how much thicker it is then a regular hair dryer. Also, it get VERY hot after a bit.

    • @siemensohm

      you need 160°C. a common hair blower won't make that

    Hello Brothers, can I make a float glass band in the same way? Please answer

    • @Kekafuch
      @Kekafuch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just search youtube. The key is to heat the glass evenly at the same time, otherwise it will likely crack. Also the temperature is much higher so you need professional gear.

    i want to bend plexiglass sheet for car window becuase homeless keep breaking my windows.

    • @toddlarsen6215
      @toddlarsen6215 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janis Rough - it might be difficult unless you have the glass as a pattern. I would imagine you could bend a sheet of plexiglass the same width as the window directly on the window and then trace the borders. I just don't know if it would adhere to the glass at all. I suspect not, but it would be a disaster if it did.
