The Chola dynasty in India existed at the same time as the Romans from 600 BCE and died out in the 13th century, they had a navy in the Bay of Bengal and a heavy influence in Southeast Asian countries. The Romans also traded with the Cholas. Trade was of Wootz steel, gems, clothes, jewellery and so on Angkor wat in phnom penh, reflects the chola influence in eastern asia. Chola's navy even reached cebu islands of philippines in 11th century CE, This was before chinese imperial sea exploration.
