    Hopefully this isn't a dumb question but do these lens require full disassembly if I only need to clean fungus from the elements?

    Hello! Great video, thanks for all the tips. I have one issue tho. When I'm putting the grooves up from the fresnel and the hole on the matte groundglass upwards, I can't adjust the groundglass to reach infinity. It stops way earlier. Is it really suppose to face up? I find if I turn them around I can achieve infinity from the ground glass adjustments. Thanks!

    Thanks for this repair video, very helpful! With the AI version, I've seen another youtuber scratch markings during disassembly, to help get things aligned exactly (the diaphragm position in particular) during reassembly. Is that advisable/necessary with the AIS version as well? I notice a significant difference in designs between the AI and AIS versions.

    Thank you for posting this. I have had a 28-105 lens stored for years because I upgraded to an 24-105 F4 L. The old lens had fungus inside the front element and it seemed that the only way to get to it is by dismantling. The video was very helpful with this, but putting it back together I notice there is a bit of a jump at 7:12 in the video and having got there myself I realise why - It is much more tricky than it looks. By the time I did get past it and secured it with the screw, I realised that one of the cables had severed from the numerous attempts at getting the body in place and ensuring the pin was seated in the groove. It was certainly worth a try for a lens that wasn't worth paying for a professional repair and I wouldn't really be able to sell for anything worthwhile, because of the fungus problem. In case anyone is wondering how I got on, the front element is fungus free and makes a great magnifying glass. I also have a waste basket full of lens components, but it was fun trying 😄

    The Nikkor 28mm 3.5 dates from the start of the F system, and has undergone several updates, last in the early 1970s. The original from around 1961 was quite unremarkable, even by the standards of its day. I bought the last optical version (pre-AI) around late 1976 in Japan. It proved to be a remarkably sharp, high contrast optic, yet it sells used for peanuts. One of the true bargains in the Nikkor line. If you shop for one of these late versions, one sure ID is if it is a true AI mount lens, (NIkon provided retrofit AI mount services for most of its lenses around 1977-79, so you have to check whether an AI lens like this 28mm is a real AI or an early version retrofitted.)

    • @yorgic
      @yorgic ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for comment. When I bought this lens it was listed as AI but I knew it was an AI-S because the aperture number "22" is orange in both rows.
