Sierra Music Publications was created in 1976 by Bob Curnow to help satisfy the continuing need for high quality literature for jazz big bands and other ensembles. The company started with two pieces in 1976 and has grown to over 600 pieces now in print in 2012.
The Rise & Fall of a Short Fugue - Bob Curnow
The Rise and Fall of a Short Fugue was written for and recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the CD “Stan Kenton Plays Chicago” on the Creative World label. Stan wanted something he could conduct and shape in different moods. Check out the audio track! Featured solos are for alto saxophone (with flute opt.) and free sections to be conducted as you wish. This one is really fun to prepare and perform. I think you’ll find that this fresh take on big band writing to be a kick! Composed by Bob Curnow. Advanced. 5-5-5-3 w/flute doubles

Tiburon - Bill Holman
มุมมอง 6716 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Tiburon was written by the late, great composer/arranger Bill Holman. It is recorded on the album Kenton ’76. There is extensive room for two trumpet solos. The instrumentation is 5 saxophones (2 altos, 2 tenors, barite.), 5 trumpets, 4 trombones, tuba, and piano, bass, drums and percussion. This is a dynamic piece, moving from slow (even 8ths), multi-meter sections to double time jazz sections...
Never Will I Marry - Frank Loesser
มุมมอง 5616 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Never Will I Marry is a terrific Bill Holman arrangement that he wrote for the Woody Herman Band and is recorded on the “My Kind of Broadway” album. It’s an up tempo excursion full of Bill’s clever, musical and exciting writing. Solo space is provided for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. There is a lot of counterpoint (of course), and, as usual, one of Holman’s killer shout choruses (twice)....
Of Another Time - Bob Curnow
มุมมอง 4316 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Fully re-done in Finale notation! This was written in memory of Stan Kenton. This gorgeous flugelhorn feature was just performed by Carl Saunders on the August, 2000 Kenton Sounds concert in Los Angeles. This is a slow, sensitive, solo vehicle for flugelhorn. A somewhat rubato, Kentonish style of composition, this piece will create a great response from your audiences. The CD on which this piec...
Inner Crisis - Larry Willis
มุมมอง 13516 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Fully re-done in Finale notation! Exactly as recorded on the CD "Stan Kenton Plays Chicago," this chart is a great feature for alto saxophone set in a big band fusion style. Every reed player plays flute in the intro, and the chart just screams from there! Lots of exciting, strong, no-doubt-it's-Kenton music! Curnow's chart really works great! 5-5-5-3 But It Here: www.sierramusicstore.com/Inner...
Alone - Lou Marini

Fully re-done in Finale notation! The Stan Kenton Orchestra was always ahead of its time! This chart was based on the music of Blood Sweat and Tears. It is a trombone feature throughout and is a wild and very exciting rock/fusion chart in a brand-new edition. Recorded on the Stan Kenton Plays Chicago CD. Sweet Spot - Bill Holman
มุมมอง 4916 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Sweet Spot, one of Bill Holman’s originals written for his own band (a feature for the late Carl Saunders) starts out easy with a cool vamp-like intro leading into the trumpet solo. There is also solo space for tenor saxophone. The feel is mostly straight eighths with the occasional swing section interrupting that feel. It’s really hard to describe the many beautiful things that happen in this ...
Crunch - Patty Darling
มุมมอง 4016 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Crunch is yet another brilliant original in the growing, much-admired catalog of Patty Darling. It is set in a somewhat laid-back swing feel with solos space for trumpet, baritone saxophone, trombone and bass. Patty wrote this with younger bands in mind, but the chart is a very hip journey through Patty’s fertile mind. Starting with quiet thoughts and building to the first solo, Patty takes her...
Si Si! M.F. - Don Rader
มุมมอง 7116 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Si! Si! - M.F. (Pro) is Don Rader’s clever Latin tune that was arranged for and recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Band on the Roulette CD Si! Si! - M.F. This chart, prepared in the latest v. of Finale was taken from the actual hand-copied chart that was in Maynard’s book. The Latin Montuno feel is cool and then gets hotter. Lots of room for solos from anyone. Check out the audio clip. Maynard ha...
Trombania Suite - Bob Curnow
มุมมอง 5916 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Fully re-done in Finale notation! A four movement suite (Anthem, Dance, Lullaby, March) for unaccompanied trombone quartet. An internationally respected trombonist/educator has this to say: "Thanks so much for sending me your Trombania Suite. What a nice piece - rather straight ahead, playable, listenable, interesting, and it shows off the trombone well...in short, a quality piece with both bea...
Fash, Fash, Fash - Lyle Mays
มุมมอง 697ปีที่แล้ว
What an historically important composition this is! While the late, great Lyle Mays was a student at (then) North Texas State University, he created this piece, knowing full well that he was constructing something entirely different for large jazz ensemble. The instrumentation alone (5 saxophones with 1 flute double on the tenor saxophone 1 part, three trumpets, flugelhorn, French horn, 3 tenor...

As recorded on "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "Dancing Sessions" by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. This arrangement is the original one, based on Willie Maiden's superb arrangement for Maynard's smaller band (4 saxes, 4 tpts., 2 trbs.). An edited version for 5-4-4-3 is also available. Whats New? - Holman
มุมมอง 838ปีที่แล้ว
Bill Holman wrote this arrangement for the Kenton Orchestra in the early '60's to feature Marvin Stamm on trumpet (of course). Kenton never recorded it, so this is brand-new chart to most people. It opens with the full band setting up the ballad texture for the soloist. A faster tempo is then the vehicle for the soloist to romp through. There is a return to the ballad tyle with a quiet ending. ...

I know Radiohead has done some Jazz Rock Life in a Glasshouse
An excellent cover but it needs to be engineered properly. Try to get in contact with a passioned sound engineer. :)
Bob Curnow ... simply love so much what you touch 🙂
Oh HELL yeah! 🎶 THANKS for posting.
the blend btw the bari and the bass bone on the last chord is 🤌
...is too much.
Who are the soloists? Sounds like Ray Aplin on trumpet
My sons HS jazz band performed this and absolutely killed it
Solid chart, I played this for my Texas all-state concert
so glad im playing flugel on this instead of one of the harmon muted trumpets
Love this - great groove.

Playing the flugelhorn part on this song
Bobs writing at his finest. Great tb scoring!

Playing this song was the highlight of my high-school band time
Nice arrangement. I Iike the Maynard homage towards the end.
Awesome rendition of a great Steely Dan song. Great job, Bob!!!

very nice chart and well played

I finally met Mr. Hampton in the early 2000's at New School, where he conducted a clinic with the kids. He was a gent to all. He greeted me like I was royalty and with generosity. He made me feel rich. Alas, he died quickly thereafter.
Ok - this is legit tough. But what incredible fun!
My favorite Maynard band. I think you came to Watertown Jazz Festival in 2004 and did your charts with the Nashville Jazz Orchestra. It was GREAT! . We had Maynard in 2003. It was a hot summer night. He did not blip a note. Love Slide . . . his playing and arranging/composing.
Thanks for that -- it comes at a good time to rest and listen.

My kids can’t wait to tackle this piece!
@@JohnHH59 They’ve won at almost every competition they’ve performed at with this song as their closer.
Does anyone know a version of this tune with a baritone solo instead of alto?
This soooo much better than the original in my opinion. You guys are awesome.
That beautiful solo was played by Vern Sielert. Kudos to him and the whole band for doing such a beautiful recording of this lovely melody. Vern is the best!
Sweet
Isn't this Basie Land?
Love it and all of your other charts. Congrats on your great work!
