Harcourt Sands - Remember the Good TImes

This was a Promotional Video available for public download on the Harcourt Sands ( Renowned ) web site intil its demise in the Autumn of 2006. Origins unknown. Guess it was shot 2004.
Went there in 2005 with the love of my life & her son, miss both.Hope she is doing well ,Was a great holiday, moaning myrtle, i wont forget. Very sad it closed for good a year later.
I worked at this place long before it was Harcourt Sands. I was the drummer in the resident band in the summer of 1967 when it was Warners St. Clare. The Warners camp next-door was Puckpool. They amalgamated them into one when they were sold some years later, which became Harcourt Sands. The girl who was to become my wife worked in the gift shop. We married the following year, and we're still together and still very much in love after nearly 60 years. I think the land must be owned by some kind of investment company (possibly middle-east?) who are waiting for the price to be right, and the right palms greased as this is absolutely top class real estate with not private, but pretty much its own beach front, and views across to Portsmouth from much of the property. If they announced building here, there'd be queues around the block for an 'off-plan' deal. More desirable than Sandbanks. Thanks for the trip into the past.
I'll tell you what I think happened as a mainlander living here for 40 years and a cynical mind from what I have seen of what's happening on the Isle of Wight. The company Renowned (no longer trading) bought it in 1999 from Haven. I'm assuming in the contract of sale it was meant to be kept as a holiday park for a certain amount of time at least. The owners of Renowned never really intended to keep it as that though. They had their eye on the prime real estate. Their plans have backfired since though as multiple developers pulled out and planning permission issues. Hence it it sadly left to sit there and rot.
Good video but not sure that the theme song to Men In Black was a good choice just because it says "I want you to remember" lol.
That song was sung by Patrice Rushen in the late 1970's. It's called 'Forget Me Not', and is ideal when covering something from years gone by. I think it's perfect.
It should have never shutdown:(((((((( it should have kept evolving:(
I came here in 2000-2006 times move on :(.
All demolished now
did they manage to save the arcade machines?
Stayed there with Sue & Barney in 2006,a very special, precious holiday, i will never forget. Best holiday that was!!!!!
who did the theme music,?? sounds good
I meant from 1989-..to 2004
So sad to think me & my family spent happy years there. It was brilliant..we went from 1999 to 2004. Such happy memories, old videos of fun & laughter.. a lovely sandy beach to relax...great facilities, & entertainment...but. visiting the I.O.W recently was a shock, how run down some places look. Especially Ryde....such a shame. The government should put money into saving the island....and wouldn't it be lovely to see an investor, " make Harcourt Sands a great holiday park again...get the visitors back.. The short video also Breaks my Heart
We spent years having great holidays at Harcourt Sands. From 1990 until 2004.. fantastic memories...food, accomodation, entertainment, & our chalets were always by the beach. Sitting on the wall, looking across the Solent. Anybody that stayed there, will know how very sad 😥 it is,. Ryde looks run down, and needs the camp to be revived for tourism. Wish I had a magic wand ...
2006*
Why did Harcourt Sands close down at the end of the 2006 season?
@@ellisjames3478 Actually, Haven disposed of Lyme Bay, Harcourt Sands and Duporth in 1999. Mill Rythe was also disposed of in 1999 too, but is the only holiday park to have survived. All the rest did get sold onto private owners for a while though; Harcourt Sands got sold to Renowned Holidays in 1999..... Anyway, you're wrong about Lyme Bay; it's a completely different holiday park to Harcourt Sands; Lyme Bay is at Seaton in East Devon.
I worked there as a greencoat in 1976 and 77. I loved it. Flipper
Did you know my mum, Tina , she worked in the photograph kiosk ?
@@alisonmike2912 . Have you a photograph of your mum?
Yes but I'm not going to post it here , just wondering that's all , I used to go there in the summer holidays, I remember Gus and a green coat called Dino ? And I think a woman green coat called Gina maybe had very green eyes and I wanted to look like her ha ha , it's all very hazy ,I was only about 11 in 76. I went on to work there in 2005 until it closed , absolutely loved it. I did a couple of Christmases there too, I was still very young but I helped out washing up behind the snack bar , Christmas of 1979 and 80.
@@alisonmike2912 i remember a tina who worked behind the bar but not in the photo booth. But yes, gus was my great mate, we had many beers together. He died sometime in the late 80s i think. I spoke to him weeks before he died. Thank you for replying to me as those memories of puckpool stay with me. A great place to work and iam still singing in pubs n clubs today!!. God bless you.
Thank you for replying too, no my mum never worked anywhere else except for the photo kiosk that I remember anyway, I'll ask her though as I said I was fairly young, she went on to work at Woodside bay but that was in the early 80s . What name did you go by when you were there ?
Revive it as a Haven park again! It's still derelict since the park closed down......
used to work at at Clare's in the 80s happy times
OMG brings a tear to my eyes, had the best holidays of my life at that place, such a shame what happened to the place.
I know exactly how you feel, I grew up on the Isle of Wight and my mum worked at puckpool holiday camp in the 1970s ,this was back when there were two camps next door to each other , the next door one being st Claire , I spent every summer holiday there joining in the activities and in 2005 after many years off the island I came back and I got a job there too, it was so much fun ,the layout had changed a lot by then of course but I was only there about 18 months before it closed it's doors forever , I can still see it in my mind's eye how it was back in the 70s and it's so sad what has become of it.
1:22 Looks like a dark figure in the doorway! Lol
Anybody know what this song is called/artist etc please.
leslie jayne my isle of white
Does anyone know what happened here? seems really odd that such a big and popular resort just closed down and has gone to rack and ruin!
To this day we still don’t know. But it’s so sad it’s still sitting there
They ran out off money :/ it’s being knocked down
So sad. Breaks my heart. Thanks for the video updates.
Went many years in a row for great holidays as a kid, truly sad its not there anymore
What a shame. It was obviously a lovely holiday place when it was open so I hope someone buys this and restores it to it's former glory as a holiday park
I clicked on 'Like' for this video because the pics bring back so many memories but in reality seeing the park in that way makes me so sad. I can't believe that I lived and worked there and now it's all gone. Weird too to see how nature seems to be reclaiming the land. Even inside the clubhouse......weird and sad.....
Really nicely done (bloody vandals, though). What a waste of so many furnishings and equipment! I never stayed there but my parents live nearby (I have quite a collection of old postcards of the two camps, though). What's the piece of music at the start? Well chosen.
it's soo sad to see it like that then know how it looks now cuz ive been to see it last year and it's like a ghost town now!!!
Holy shit, i loved this place, lots of great memories...
lived there for four months as an activity instructor, so sad to see it gone
wow...what happened to it? It looked like such a fun place for the summer months. I looked at some of the videos after it was abandoned. What do citizens do for holiday now?
Such a waste.
