If you have a few students who find it difficult to focus their voices, you are NOT ALONE! In fact, in younger voices, this is a common part of the vocal development process. Be patient and guide your students toward the sensation of suspended breath and vocal folds that don't let so much air through with each vibration.
Don't force it! Just guide them.
Let me know how it goes!

I can’t guarantee that all of the methods I recommend will suit you. I only use exercises and methods I personally think are good - having tried them on myself and my clients and having a thorough understanding of vocal pedagogy - but everyone's anatomy and voice are different and it's possible these exercises won't help. Wherever possible, test the method out on yourself before applying to students.
I only feature methods I like, have tested and had consistent success with, or have seen others succeed with.

I graduated with my Masters from Yale University in Vocal Performance. I am currently serving as the Director of Voice at a university in the United States where I teach vocal pedagogy and private voice lessons; I direct the opera productions and teach vocal diction for American English, French, German, and Italian. I am also a dialect coach, perhaps the thing I'm most passionate about. I love speech and the voice! To communicate really defines us and we're born with the tools to learn how! Truly astonishing!

fast singing vocal warm up

#singing #howtosing #vocalwarmup In this lesson, I will take you through my 2 key objectives when I have a limited time to warm-up: 1. Resonance optimization 2. Balancing breath pressure. I start with pitch slides of 3 notes. Then I do pitch slides over 2 octaves. Next I start with a hum, optimising space in the throat and forward resonance. Then, I open up and do the humming exercise on an [i]...

    If you don’t mind me asking how old were you in the beginning clip? I’m starting vocal training at 21 and I’m wondering if I’m too late. I’ve been singing my whole life but never “technically well”

      14! Listen, I didn't have my first voice lesson until I was 25. It's not too late! You're right on time!

    Wow that’s brilliant with having the student sing a note and then you match it with piano! I have been confounded about how to teach pitch other than just having them listen and try to match a pitch I’m singing or playing

    Emily, you and your channel are wonderful! I am an amateur singer who wants to learn more helpful tips. Could you please make a video either geared to beginning students or teachers of beginning students about English and Italian diction? I saw some of the French diction videos, and while very helpful, most beginning or amateur students sing in either English or Italian. It would be greatly appreciated!!!! Your voice is very beautiful, and I like the video on what you do to prepare and warm-up your voice.

      @SaraEve51 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that good diction (sing like you speak) can help with overall technique.

    Sometimes the messages that are printed either above or below your tutorial, disappear too quickly, before I can jot them down. The one where you indicate that your put your finger under your top lip to enhance transition. Is that inside your mouth? Also how far should your tongue protrude from your lips on tongue trills?
