      Yes, it would work just fine doing it this way. You can also use a watering can and mix the two in it to water the plants.

    I use natural. Big garbage can like the truck picks up and dumps? I fill it with grass clippings, it had water in it at wonter time and cracked just above 5 gallon bucket height. So i put grass in it and add water. Then i use old plastic gallon milk jugs and fill them from the bucket. I made almost 20 gallons tilll july poured the last couple gallons back through it to rebrew. Then I stopped it and its cleaned up now( it was smelly) , I had it full and it was hard to tip up to roll it to m9ve it. Im 0uttin clippin 8n pre beds and turnin it in . Then ill mix the tea strong with water and pour into these beds ahaed of time. I seeded up( bout 200) saturday for sundays full moon to germinate. Bout two weeks i can transplant into those beds. Dont put dairy in it.since i started my sunflowers ive got, bees, wasps, spidermites, and whole bumch 9f baby toads Ive not seen since * was about 3 years old. I just turned 60 at christmas. Wow Hadleys a old man? Still the same 13 year old ,16 year old and years 9f skill experience. This the first time i tried flowers and my w9rst bed was the most sucessfull all 5he better beds at the start got took by the april storms 2024 and i started out plantin TOO DEEP OVER 300 NEVER SPROUTED so i started germinatin and had better sucess. And pre made befs work better than turnin the dirt and sowin in the back pasture

      What a wonderful idea Hadley! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe of an all natural fertilizer. I hope others will read it too and try their hands at it. I do have docks growing in my yard, and this may be good use of them in my garden. I am glad to hear you experiment with flowers went well! I try to have flowers around my garden as well, and it has definitely helped with pollinators. This year I have a lot of ladybugs, and the wasps took care of all the cabbage worms. It's amazing to see these little creatures doing so much work. Age is no limit when it comes to gardening and you are proving it well. Glad you feel good inside, like your younger self! Great tip with the skewer to see if the plant needs water. I also place trays under the pot, allowing the soil to pull up moisture. Growing up we (as in I) would fill milk jugs with screw-on caps, and use a small brad to puncture a few holes in the bottom before placing the jugs around the tomato plants. As the day warmed up the water would be forced from the jug into the soil.

    • @TheGardenTinkers
      @TheGardenTinkers 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is awesome to know, and makes perfect sense, as the water warms up, it's density will reduce, which will force it out. Wonderful! I have to try this! In fact I am going to do it today. Thank you so much!

      There is no rule about where to put it. You can definitely put it next to the plant. I put them in the center because that way the water is evenly distributed in all directions, in case I decide to grow more than one plant in same container.

    When I put the waterbottle the next day it's all gone...what I'm doing wrong

    • @TheGardenTinkers
      @TheGardenTinkers 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think you are doing anything wrong. There are three possibilities, 1st your olla is brand new, terracota soaks a lot of water when it is brand new, it will stop doing this after some time. You can also take the olla spike out and soak it in water overnight and then put it back in your container. 2nd possibility, it is really very hot where you live. When it is too hot, water also evaporates from the soil faster. You can slow this evaporation down by mulching your container. 3rd possibility, your olla probably broke, there could be a crack in it and the water is leaking out fast. You can take the olla out and inspect it, fill it with water and see if it is leaking fast from any side. If it is, and you recently bought it, you can return it and ask for a replacement or refund. I hope these suggestions help.

    A nice and meaningful video. I saw so many varieties of berries which I never knew the types of berries. I want to know how did you control the pest attack on the plants. I hope you are not using pesticides. Plz let me know. In totality a nice video quite meaningful for garden lovers. Thanks.

    • @TheGardenTinkers
      @TheGardenTinkers 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this one. I do not use pesticides. The major pest (if I may call them pest at all) that I have are bunnies, squirrels, birds and rolly pollies. Bunnies did a lot of damage to my blueberry plants this year. I have put a bird cage around the blueberry plants such that it would stop the bunnies but won't bother birds. It has helped with the bunny attack. I try not to deal with birds and let them steal berries. I know eventually all these berry plants will grow big enough to make fruit for birds and us, and we can share it. This year there is a hawk in our neighborhood and seems like it has helped control the squirrel population. But usually I would cover a plant with row covers if I want to protect it from squirrels. I lost a lot of strawberries to rolly pollies this year, but only because I was traveling and was in and out of my town a lot during that period. Next year I will pop the berries on top of straw or a mesh to control this damage. Rolly pollies are important part of ecosystem too because they help a lot with decomposing dead plant materials. So I don't use any thing harsh against any of these pests.

    I installed these same spikes in my raised tomato bed over ten days ago. It’s been warm, sunny, and DRY, since, and I’ve never had such vigorous plants, really remarkable. I use wine bottles, and top them off every 5 or 6 days. Very important, you should soak them for several hours before using. Yes, they are fragile. I ordered the set of 20 through Amazon, 2 arrived broken, but I was given a very fair partial refund. Another broke in use, but not so bad it couldn’t be fixed with good ol’ duct tape. I do recommend these, keeping in mind you may only get two or three seasons out them.

      Hello, You can try to glue the broken ones by filling up the fracture with some fine baking soda (bicarbonate) and then applying superglue ('fast' acrylic glue) on this filled crack... it works for me also with cracked terracotta (clay pot)... By the way, I think using (unglased) terracotta pots as an alternative Olla works fine and much cheaper. OK, succes with the system

    • @gtlfb
      @gtlfb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brudo5056 I’ve found an even better solution for larger beds - unglazed Terra cotta wine coolers. They were very popular a few years ago, now I see them fairly regularly at thrift stores and estate sales. Much sturdier, hold far more water, and no hole in the bottom to fill in. Just cap with whatever you have handy.

      Hi Michelle. Thank you for your wonderful comment. If you suggest to wait a bit more. Some times plants need a bit to settle in. I saw maximum growth in my grape vine later on then in the first couple months. It would probably grow by August. Other perennials in my garden took even longer, for first two years they were just sticks, in third years they started growing.

    I know it’s crazy. People just discovered this method of growing plants so I know not many will know about this. If you put those little things that come out of the vegetable or fruit in the ground and water it. It will grow into a whole new plant. It’s crazy I know.

      Love your enthusiasm. This is correct, many vegetables can be grown from seeds in store bought vegetables (such as tomatoes), or from the roots of store bought vegetables such as spring onion.

    Hi first of all I would like to thank you for the tips that you give in the video. I am a beginner and i have little knowledge in gardening. I have a few questions. 1. Do you make your own fertilizer and do you have a video about that? 2. Is it okay to fertilize once a week with store bought fertilizer? Or once a week with diy fertilizer? 3. I live on an island where the sun is very hot. How can I still let my strawberry plant produce as much as sweet strawberries while the sun is so hot? P.s the heat of the sun burned some of my plants completely out, now I just leave my plants under the shade. 5. Is it okay if I use only potting mix and perlites? That is all that I have and I'm on a limited budget. 6. Besides watering, what can I give my plants daily to boost growth and fruit production? 7. Do you have like a standard routine that I can follow and stick to on how to do gardening the right way? Thank you for your time and help🙏

      Hi Ik hou van pannekoeken! I love your enthusiasm towards gardening. Here are my answers to your questions in the same order that you asked. 1. Yes i make compost and a very easy liquid fertilizer. I also use other free resources to help improve the soil nutrients. Here is the link to a playlist of the videos that i created on this topic: th-cam.com/play/PLYKK6PMXpI9prjIOpH4o-xYQacjU51XKB.html 2. I do not fertilize any plant that often (weekly). I put more effort in preparing the soil/ potting mix and adding nutrients to it. However if you really want to fertilize every week, use lower concentration of store bought fertilizer, or use natural home made one (i have a video on it, again in the same playlist as mentioned above in point 1). I am really curious though about which plant you want to fertilize every week, and why, what is your thought process behind this weekly routine? 3. I understand this problem. Focus on establishing new plants by providing shade in the afternoon, water them well in the morning so that the plant is ready for the heat, once you feel the plant is established (you will know this by seeing new, healthy growth), gradually remove the shade cloth on one or two plant and observe how they behave. If they are able to take the heat, it means they are ready. For example let one plant get 1 hour of extra sun on 1st day after you think it is ready, notice how it behaves, if it is ok, after two days give it 2 hours of extra sun, and keep repeating this process. 4. Does your print mix say any NPK number on the packet? Most common ones have 3-3-3 or 5-5-5. I dedicated a complete video on how to prepare your own soil even on a budget, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/FxgWRIU25pE/w-d-xo.html 5. You don't need to give anything daily. In fact overdoing it my stress out the plant too. You do remind me of myself when i was a beginner gardener :) My advise is to be patient with the garden. Plants are wise in their own ways and know when to grow. Just focus on good soil preparation, regular watering based on how hot it gets in your place and pests. 6. I have discovered my own routine that works best for it. You will discover yours too as you will gain more experience with your garden. One thing that really helped me was to observe the change in my garden almost every other day. I would notice which plants are doing better and which ones are struggling, find possible causes of problem and try to solve them etc. My routine also includes planning my garden every year. As you are a beginner gardener, i would recommend you to watch this playlist that i dedicated to beginner gardeners: th-cam.com/play/PLYKK6PMXpI9pbDqI6WWroUub7tFedWI25.html I wish you good luck with your garden. My biggest advice would be to not give up. It would take some time to get it right, so stay strong and keep going on.

      @@TheGardenTinkersWow, first of all i thought you would not respond back because i think maybe i am asking too many questions 🤷‍♀️ I sended the same questions to other garderners on youtube hoping anyone would respond to help me out but i had doubt that no one would because of my lengthy comment. I am sooo thankful for you taking your time to read all my questions and giving me broad answers. The pottingmix did not have any number on the package, there was just a picture of fruits and veggies. I feel motivated and uplifted by the support you gave me and i will do my best to make my garden thrive!🤗❤️ Thank you once again! God Bless
