I presented this hymn to my childhood friend and his wife on the occasion of their wedding. Without betraying his privacy, Ezra entered into a new faith with his wedding to Laura, and I am thrilled for both of them. Community becomes a profound thing the longer one considers its intricacies, as well as both the great capacities and equally great responsibilities with which it endows us. It is at once one of our most core Human needs and, when abused, our most pressing dangers. The message of Christianity alleviates those dangers to us, as long as we are open to hear and embody it.
