This is what musical should sound. Also, I’m still mad this didn’t win best musical that year because I think this show is way better than In the Heights. Idc 🤷🏾‍♂️

How on earth did this show just disappear. It's an absolute masterpiece. I was FLOORED how amazing it was. Should still be on Broadway.

I feel like this show came a few years too early imo. I’m not sure folks were ready for such a unique sounding prominently black musical. Like I think folks were so accustomed to hearing a more R&B/gospel themed musical. Also, I think it got overshadowed by In the Heights…however, imo, this show is vastly better than ITH. 🤷🏾‍♂️ It’s sad that even in musical theatre spaces that this show doesn’t get the same love.

My high school did this musical and Stu came to give us tips and he was an absolutely amazing human. We need more people like him in this world.

I remember when I owned everything, the sun and the moon and rain stretched out yonder on the asteoplane , the universe is a toy in the mind of a boy and life is a movie to , starring you with your family and friends as your cast and crew , just a little secret between you god and you. Now you might think a mother's love is insane but she really knows everything, to bad it took so long for me to see whar youve been missiing .

My FAVORITE MUSICAL…. I listen to the soundtrack and reminisce on that blessed day I saw it on Broadway… I wish it could be a long running musical… but it was such an unique musical that I figured that couldn’t happen… I am so grateful I got to witness this magical journey in real time. Dang it was so dope!

two things. firstly i didn’t expect that ending to make me straight up sob, i guess it all just hit me right then, damn. love seeing my people dancing to rock music, we need broader black representation in theatre. and secondly, it took me too long to realize that was colman domingo, i recognized half the cast but i genuinely couldn’t place his face until stew said it at the end lmaoo

My absolute favourite musical. The themes seem appropriately stuffy and high-minded as expected from an artist trying to find themselves yet are made easily understandable and relatable thanks to the songs and Stew's poetic narration and the power behind the actors' performances. The climax of Act 1 here always deeply affects me, as does the show as a whole. Super glad it was recorded, this is an amazing coming of age story!

I performed this at my community college and it was honestly my favorite production I've been a part of. Such a beautiful, fun, crowd involvement, and overall fantastic story of the life of an artist. We got so much publicity from the performance that even Stew went to see it. TWICE. We toured the show to a theatre festival and got so many young artists (like myself) thinking about themselves and what they perceive is important. "Love like that can't be measured anyway."
