Had a surprise visitor today! (Aka my husband 😍) Day 26 of 365 days of practice!

Warmed up with Hanon exercise No. 50 then finished up with the Bach violin concerto. Not much time today, but something is better than nothing!

I said I’d only do some Hanon practice, but it’s like they always say, if you don’t feel like practicing, do it anyway. Chances are, you’ll warm up to the idea, and if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll have a hard time stopping! Bach and Debussy were part of the order of the day! #365daysofpractice #pianopractice #piano #pianoroom

I was only going to play one song, but then I played more. That always happens. Once I play I usually have a hard time stopping! More Debussy, more Bach, sprinkled with a little Chopin! Sounds like a good practice to me! None of them were perfect, or close, but piano to me is less about perfection and more about experiencing the joy of music and sharing it with others! ❤️

    jusr wanted to clarify that despite the fact you are consistently practicing "consistently" you're not actually practicing consistently "practicing" meaning you're just twiddling your thumbs and not reflecting the art of exercise, i would love to explain it to you practicing the bare minimum to scar your talents, will teach you to work around your own limitations, actually growing a muscle when you reflect on your memories, i give up giving you the full explanation, but it is a slight accounting error you're running into since you're practicing in the dark, whatever though not like any of this makes sense to you anyway 😂

    This camera angle is good but perhaps you could flip the camera view around? It looks like you’re playing backwards if that makes any sense. I am very familiar with this hymn and have played often. If you are new to the organ, you might want to practice the pedal line alone at first. If I may be so bold as to offer a tip for pedalling; try to come up with a heel, toe method to help you through pedal passages. If you want, you could check out some of my organ videos on TH-cam. My channel is: scott marroon. You will see the heel, toe method that I’ve spoken about. Keep up the good work!

    Have you tried doing one hand + feet practice before putting it together? It should help with practicing and learning coordination. Plus you learn music much faster. Another thing I noticed is that you keep trying to push your way through the piece. Practicing hesitations is bad because that becomes part of what you learned. Also when youre trying to struggle through it, your brain is focused on processing the information needed to control your limbs. As a result, not much is actually retained in your brain. As someone who learned 15-30 minutes of new music for lessons + church, slow is much faster than rushing the learning process

    • @starnekohikaru
      @starnekohikaru 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I also noticed you had some trouble with repeated pedal notes with the same foot. Usually, you would either share it with the other foot, or alternate between toe and heel to minimize motion. On the topic of minimizing motion, to play the pedal, stay relaxed, dont use force to depress the keys. Place your foot on the note you are about to play and use gravity to depress. A stomping motion makes your legs tired quickly, can be inaccurate, and on tracker (mechanical organs) can make the pipes squeak when speaking cuz the pallets open too quickly. When you're in the learning/drilling. phase, try to use a softer registration (8 4 flutes or 8 foot principal). You will hear more clarity without the reeds and mixtures, and prolonged exposure to such loud sounds can damage your hearing over time. Super glad ro see you learning and putting so much effort and enthusiasm into learning this amazing instrument!

    • @AlisaLindsayJohnson
      @AlisaLindsayJohnson 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@starnekohikaru thanks for your advice! I’ll take it into consideration next time I play. ❤️ One thing I will say is that I don’t do heal-toe-heal because my heals can’t really reach the pedals comfortably. I may need to find organ shoes with taller heals if such a thing exists. 😅 I really love learning how to play the organ, and 2024 really opened my eyes with learning the pedals and more about registrations. I really love it!

    I had the opportunity to work with Dan Carter, the hymn composer, in the church's music typesetting department in the late 80s. He told me the story of how this tune came to him at his in-laws in Canada when he was struggling to meet the deadline for submission to the green hymnal. He said it was heaven sent. He got the entire hymn in one download.
