Nope, that would have turned out MUCH more interesting.

Back then I started building my own electric grand piano, the technology was ready, but the design wasn't yet. Ultimately I had to give up due to a lack of technical skills; and then ROLAND came with the GP609 and it didn't make sense to continue. Although I would have gone one better visually, in the end it looked like a STEINWAY D

I also got the same association, so there's definitely something about it.

It is just musical cognitive coincidence, nothing else. No resemblence to Bach except for a slight idea from the first measures. It is just an idea that knows its way naturally into the composer's psyché. He may even suspected of some Beethoven's resemblance but I would rather call it influence, instead.

Das Stück ist in der Tat interessant, auch wenn es ursprünglich ja für Violine und B.c. geschrieben wurde; in Anbetracht der "wenigen" Töne baut es jedoch eine beachtliche Atmophäre auf wie ich finde. Und es ist eine fantastische "Etüde" für das Legato-Spiel der linken Hand. Grüße Jörg!

An interesting question! The SIMROCK Original Edition has “vivo” as the tempo indication. The recording is a few years old, and I based the tempo on imagining a child switching from one leg to the other while skating. Each change here would be a dotted quarter note, i.e. 1-2-3 for the left and 4-5-6 for the right. Converted to your tempo, that's 184 eighth notes, or about 62 dotted quarters. But the child skates too slowly for me :-) - it is a vivid child, as requested! My recording is more like 240 or 80 for the dotted quarter. A matter of taste - as always!

Hi Jason! The left hand is not too difficult, most of the time it is split over both hands. The difficulty here is to play it soft throughout the whole piece. Hope you master it :-) greetings Jörg

and by the way, if you are taking this on already in your 2nd year, you are definitely playing a lot higher than the average student. Have fun :-)

Alas, the playing ability is due more to work ethic and "athleticism" than any God-given talent. I'm also an older student, so am eager / motivated to take on material above my experience level. You are very right! Talent is certainly necessary, but a great part of learning any classical instrument is discipline and endurance. Theoretical understanding is also very important, because it helps you play faster and remember things easier. Lets stay in contact. See ya around!
