❌Lady mondegreen ✅Laid him on the green
Absolute banger
Great rendition of this unique song. Very different to our Irish Fureys version. Thank you sir.
I found that James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Moray, is my 12th Great-Grandfather.
I've found my cousin...
Lyrics for this version: O Willie's gane to Melville Castle, Boots and spurs an a', To bid the leddies a' fareweel Before he ga'ed awa'. Willie's young and blythe and bonnie, Lo'ed by ane and a', Oh! What will all the lassies do When Willie gaes awa? The first he met was Lady Kate, She led him through the ha', And wi' a sad and sorry heart She loot the tear-drop fa'. Beside the fire stood Lady Grace, Said ne'er a word ava; She thocht that she was sure o' him Before he gaed awa'. Well the next he met was Lady Bell, "Gude troth ye need na craw, Maybe the lad will fancy me, And disappoint ye a'." Doun the stair cam Lady Jean, The flower amang them a', "O lasses trust in Providence An' ye'll get husbands a'." O Willie's gane to Melville Castle, Boots and spurs an a', To bid the leddies a' fareweel Before he ga'ed awa'. Willie's young and blythe and bonnie, Lo'ed by ane and a', Oh! What will all the lassies do When Willie gaes awa? When on his horse he rade awa' They gathered round the door, He gaily waved his bonnet blue, They set up sic a roar, Their cries, their tears brocht Willie back, He kissed them ane an' a', "O lasses bide till I come hame And then I'll wed ye a'." O Willie's gane to Melville Castle, Boots and spurs an a', To bid the leddies a' fareweel Before he ga'ed awa'. Willie's young and blythe and bonnie, Lo'ed by ane and a', Oh! What will all the lassies do When Willie gaes awa?
A legend will never be forgotten such as the corries and in your own right a good edinburgh man such as yersel. God Bless
RIP Lady Mondegreen
The majority of people here who don't seem to have heard of Roy Williamson or know The Corries think this is a great song. Meanwhile those who have heard of The Corries think Ronnie Browne should have left it as Roy's to sing. So I'm in the opinion that this song was fine on its own, and that you shouldn't let sentimentality be the judge. Roy's version will obviously be the best one but that doesn't mean Ronnie didn't do well.
CubingBookworm2312 _ I disagree why can’t the man sing any song he wants he could be doing it as a tribute to Roy maybe he wanted to record his own version of it?
Very nice.
actually thus great song was written by Jim McClean, among other things one time road manager of The Dubliners
Que saudades dos dois juntos ! Saudades de Roy...
Gorgeous voice!
20.08.2016 - Happy Birthday, Ronnie Browne! Shared on G+.
The Corries were the greatest Scots duo ever! Thanks for sharing this solo by Ronnie!
This is one of my favorite songs despite the tragedy it speaks of. We must never forget and we must fight for what is good at all times because unfortunately there are those who call themselves human and yet perpetuate things such as this. It seems to me the majority of human kind longs for peace and safety and respect. Let us live our lives upholding the goodness as long as we draw breath. Take care Sir, Rolland B. Heiss
I've been looking for anything by Moira Anderson for over 20 years with no luck. I fell in love with her songs in grammar school
A real statesman of Scottish music:)
I never knew Ronald's ancestors were Lords!
I don't think it's correct to say that Ronnie's songs after Roy's death, if that's what people are saying here, were more "authentic" than the ones they did together.. I've also heard people say that the songs Roy sang were more authentic. I guess it depends on your definition, but as the Corries and as part of the the Corrie Folk Trio (which also did this one), Ronnie and Roy did many types of songs together, some traditional and some more crowd pleasing, and almost all of them were beautiful.
This song is great until we get to the line "My name is Lord Ronald Macdonald". I just can't get past the image of a clown with a BigMac unfortunately!
That's the original music from the "These are the Corries Album" in the background with Ronnie on harmonica and, I guess Roy, on a whistle. Nice touch!.
My luve for you and for Scotland is like a red, red rose. Thank you so much. From France
Love Ronnie Browne! He and Roy Williamson are the greatest Scottish folk singers of all time! Thank you for posting!
why are you SHOUTING? nice song

Brilliant, yes!! But this recording is by Roy Williamson, NOT by Ronnie Browne. BOTH great singers and musicians and Roy is greatly missed.
Sorry, he should have left this one alone. It's Roy's song and this just sounds miserable.
Arkybark I totally agree - it is Roy's song
Hey stop that your the ones who’s not happy😢
@TheSpiritof45 RULE 54: CAPSLOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL RULE 55: EVEN WITH CAPSLOCK YOU STILL HAVE TO STEER....
Great
MY STANCE REMAINS GIVE ME ONE campbell WHO IS NOT A FOLLOWER OF WILLIAM 1690 AND WE WILL BOTH BE LOOKING AT THESPIRITOF45 PESTULANCE TO THE campbells
looks kind of like the moody blues legend of the mind castle footage film
@TheSpiritof45 The Scottish administration planned and ordered it and King William signed the orders. It was regular troops of the Scottish army who carried it out. The commanding officer was a Campbell and a small percentage of the actual troops were Campbells but it was not a Clan Campbell operation as such. It probably suited central govt at that time to portray it was Highlanders killing each other as it shifted responsibility from central government itself.
@gaconnochie i stupidly posted my reply to you in response to my own comment i have indicated your errors all the best
@TheSpiritof45 VERY SIMPLE KING BILLY OF TANGERINES ORDERED IT AND ONLY ONE CAMPBELL WAS IN CHARGE "CONCOCTED" MANY MILES FROM EDINBURGH AS FOR BISCUIT TIN I NEVER TOUCH THEM ONLY PORIDGE OATS AND JUST BECAUSE "OTHERS" WOULD DO IT PISS OFF THE ONLY GOOD CAMPBELL DOES NOT BREATH GOD BLESS KING JAMES
@TheSpiritof45 Keep reading your Scottish history off biscuit tins. What bit off what I said is exactly false?
@gaconnochie FALSE FALSE YOUR NO BETTER THAN THE HORSE HUGGING WILLIAM GO JUMP OFF ANOCH MOR X PS ONE CAMPBELL!!!!!
Absolutley horrible, when sung as a sad song cutting out the gorgeous ghosty ending. How dare he. Everyone who thinks misery is beautiful is sick.
I have always loved this version of The Bonnie Earl O' Moray. I love this song and love it's history. I found a bit of a different version many years ago and do like it also. It is a bit more modern, but I still love the song and I can hear the similarities in the tune if I listen closely. Thank you for your upload. Ronnie Browne is certainly a true treasure!
killing 900 Campbells without a sword being lifted in defence! They were all as bad or as good as each other :-) What made Glencoe more significant was that it was an atrocity concocted by the Scottish government in Edinburgh itself and not an atrocity due to caln rivalry. The troops used happened to be Campbells but it easily could have been others.
@MysticalViking I wouldn't worry about your ancestors being connected to one clan or the other they all have their dark points to hide. For instance pre 1601 when the Scottish and English kingdoms were completely seperate the MacDonalds on at least two occassions allied themselves to an English invasion of Scotland - and as far as atrocities go Glencoe wasn't a particularly large massacre compared with some. During the 17thC Herschip of Argyle the MacDonald bard's boasted openly about the clan
allan connochie Im not a Scot though I have thin family connections via a Guthrie or three...my understanding was this was considered such an atrocity because it was a murder of the hosts after broken bread, and a defiling of hospitality. my understanding is of course somewhst limited. i presume to know nothing.
What a fabulous setting to go with an even more fabulous song and singer.
Brillant Ronnie
Great Ronnie. You were always the voice of the Corries. Bless you always
This is morbid and a waste of a brilliant song - stick to the ones you can definitely sing.
I love listening to Ronnie sing, but at the same time I have a sadness from not hearing Roy.
@osoneill , I'll hazard a guess: it comes from a fire. Either grass or wood, it's hard to tell. As I said it's only a guess... :-))
Ronnie Browne is a giant of song, and I'm glad he's walked amongst us. His songs with Roy were wonderful, but now we see who was the true genius of the two. No disrespect to Roy is meant, by the way.
