How to Repair Omnibus Binding

There are some omnis out there that are notorious for bad binding. I figured I would take a shot at repairing a couple from the collection.

Getting back into comics after 13 years. Is it better to get single issue comics or wait and get omnibus books?
It depends. The tricky part is not all comics will get put into an omnibus. I do both. I buy the monthly series that I really want to know what’s happening without spoilers and later I’ll sell or trade them in at my LCS for credit.
@@omniman86right I noticed that. Like spectacular Spider-Man has 1-64 split into two omnis. 1-42 on vol 1 & 43-61 in the Roger stern edition Omni. It’s hard to know where to even start collecting
Did something happen to the link for Houchen? Can't find their website myself. Also how do you accurately measure a book for a file as I'm not sure how to measure my hardbacks.
We need a full Republic Omnibus and a Legacy Omnibus and we’ll have most of the best stuff in hard cover.
IMO Dark Horse did a much better job with their comics than Marvel. With that said, I appreciate that Marvel is reprinting the Dark Horse books. A lot of them were hard to find in collected editions before the marvel reprints
dude your recommendation to resize the background of dust cover to be size of the walgreen poster size saved me. I couldn't figure out how to print it at the fit I edited in because walgreens would always resize to fit image to poster. Thanks bro! Going with walgreens now cuz its just way more affordable.
I just bought those! It’s actually my second Star Wars omnibus :) I’m very glad I could get the DM edition both this and the rebellion omnibus are on the way :)

It says Marvel Omnibus. Marvel has had the comic publishing rights of Star Wars for the last ten years.
Because Disney is the parent company of both Marvel and Star Wars. In the initial years Marvel used to publish the Star Wars comics than it went to Dark Horse. When Disney bought Lucasfilm, the Marvel automatically got the Star Wars comic rights.
Was really disappointed with the Empire Vol 2. Half of it wasn't even the Empire it was the older comics from the 90s about threepio and R2
That's because "The Empire" collections are not about the Empire, they're the comics set between episodes 3-4. Similar to how "Rebellion" is everything set between 4-6. Tales of the Jedi is everything pre-Old Republic, etc. All these collections are era specific. All the issues collected inside have always been presented on any of the websites I've bought these omnis on, so you should know what you're getting into. Almost everything from the old EU will be collected once everything is released, so don't fear that they'll skip Empire related stuff in favor of c3po, because it'll all get printed eventually.

Thanks for this! I tried doing this at Fedex, and it was WAY more expensive. I have two 22x9.5 jackets, and on a 20x30 poster I could print both at once. Hopefully they won't say anything, since these are jackets I made myself for some books, rather than using Marvel or DC art
How do the absolute Transmets look on the shelf next to the original prints? Do they have the same spine design? I’ll eventually have 1st edition vol 1-2 next to a reprint of 3.

Marvel unlimited has them all for 10 bucks a month of 70 a year. Try it free for a week and see what you think

Thank you for this review. I am looking to make new dust jackets for photo books that I had printed over the years and this was really helpful for looking at pros and cons of different options.

What is the name of the shelves you have?
It is IVAR from IKEA. You can get them in a lot of different arrangements and heights to fit your setup. One of the things I like is that they’re deep so I can store some lighter things behind the Omnis. 🤘
Sorry realized I only 1/2 answered. The shelves for the DC Omnis are from Target - similar to IKEA Kallax. The black bookcases are a combo of shelves from IKEA and Target.
You need to work on your buying discipline mate, you know there is always good deals right? Half your collection is “just bought it because got a good deal on them” 😅

🔥🔥🔥🔥 I don't think I've seen this video before! Only the first one you did. They look great! Weird about the sizes, the files are all the exact same height down to the pixel. In the end Houchen might be a little more expensive but they laminate the dust jackets and they come out the perfect size haha Nice video!

Hi! The Ultimates Omnibus collects everything Ultimates related? Or there's a third series?
There was a short 5-issue Ultimates 3 that was written by Jeph Loeb that is not collected here. After this would come the Ultimate Comics: Avengers Omnibus which unfortunately has been OOP for a while. 🤘
Fyi, you want to squeeze the glue through a straw to get it deep inside the binding without getting glue on the outside of the pages. Also, this separation is caused by opening your books 180 degrees flat on a table. Always prop your books open to 120 degrees, or use a 120 degree bookstand to prevent this from happening. Proper handling/reading of your books is paramount to preserving their condition.

I think if you wont let yourself stop hating just because it’s new you’ll find that it’s pretty good and they’re using it as a tool to cover up their own potholes in a pretty good way just give it a shot man with an open mind

You should go back and watch this @ the 9:31 mark, you're saying your Punisher book is good, but it's 100% separated from the ribbon. You say it's got a good eye but it's actually completely separated from the ribbon. This is very evident when you watch at the 9:59 mark, where you flip it around and view it from the other side. You're saying the part that is separating from the ribbon is a problem. So either separating from the ribbon is a good thing "Bottom of the book" or it's a bad thing "Top of the book". I'm honestly not sure which is correct but you should probably be consistent. Or maybe I'm confused...which is entirely possible and I apologize if I am.
Agreed. Also at 2:30 the Punisher page block isn't attached to the ribbon but he says it's a nice eye and is attached. It does look like the ribbons were attached during repair though as they looked fine when showing the finished repair.
Hi there! Thanks for the comment. In going back in reviewing what you were talking about you were absolutely correct. I was so focused on the pages detaching themselves that I didn't even notice that the "eye" I was referring to was the ribbon and not the normal "eye". I appreciate the heads up! 🤘

I personally keep my deluxe editions and my omnis separate because it looks nice, but I'll definitely experiment with this new idea.

What shelving is that?
The shelving for the DC Omnis are Brightroom cube organizers from Target. Very similar to Kallax from IKEA. The shelving for the Marvel Omnis is Ivar from IKEA. 🤘

I know Earth 1610 was revealed to be back in Spider-Men II. And I was hoping for the Ultimate Universe to make a comeback. This could be the fresh start it deserves, post Secret Wars with it's revival. Bring back many of those that died during Ultimatum. Which most agreed is where the Ultimate Universe began to decline.
Yeah I definitely think there is more they could do with it. It’s interesting to see where DC leans very heavy into the multiverse (especially the last few years) and Marvel pretty keeps everything in 616. 🤘
Ultimate Fantastic Four would be a nice addition!
