1966 Mustang Budget Build: YEARS TWO & THREE
A budget revival of a rough 6-cylinder '66 Ford Mustang, off the road since the '80s. It won't be shiny. It won't be fast. Documentation of all the fumbling around I did in 2023 and 2024. This video is a supercut/edit of episodes 19-30. No talking / no voiceover / no commentary / ASMR -ish.

OH MY GOD WORK TRASH......
Great work. Did you use flux core for all of the welding?
Yep! I'm still learning.
Unbelievable what work was done with this classic Mustang. Great passion and perseverance. Thanks for this really great documentary; fascinating, impressive, inspiring and finally very well staged and filmed - Thanks 👍😀
Hey, thanks! Still a whole bunch more to do.
Thank you so much for posting videos really inspirational!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad you dig them!
Make America beautiful. Restore a Mustang.
Well damn. Better than nothing. Like it.
Thankful they don’t salt the roads here in the PNW. My project is a 65 with the cheapest Falcon running gear: anemic 6-cylinder with a floor shift 3-speed. The entry level, sold for about $1900 when new. This will be my Granddaughter’s daily driver when I’m done…
Oh! Your voice! Right there at the top of the video! <3 And of course all the music. Awesome, as always.
I had one of those locking shifter handles. The black button broke off. Called the company and talked to the designer, he sent me 3 new buttons. All 3 broke also! This was during one summer. Called again, number out of service! The adds in Ford & Mustang Magazine also disappeared. Flop! Went back to the original handle. Just beware, bud.
I noted the button looked a little cheap. I'll keep my original handle in the trunk as a backup. Thanks
I want to buy your music
thedemographic.bandcamp.com/ Glad ya like it!
I recommend you going back in the interior and putting foil sound deadening matt in whole car and trunk it's a must those mustang seep moisture a lot in panels
"I tried 2024" Thanks for making me smile.
This video made my latest project look less poopy and life ruining... thanks for the boost. You're doing an awesome job.... Cheers from the Shed
Love it dude. Great shot at the end of the garage door coming down
Congrats Tom! it's been a long road and i've enjoyed watching you along the way. How much more do you have to do? Hopefully it will be ready to roll come spring time! can't wait to see that first drive.
*maybe* I will drive it in my driveway by summer, but it won't be street legal for awhile yet. Still gotta do: rear frame rail repair, gas tank, suspension, body repair (at least enough to pass state inspection). And then there's still plenty to do after that, ha. Glad you like the videos.
Can't wait for next years video's!
I have a set of 68 kick panels if you need them, gladly send them your way
The car has come so far, i thought it wasn’t possible to fix this car.
Geez
Hi.👋 Algorithms brought up your channel. The 1965-1967 Mustang Coupe is my dream cah. I hear your accent.👍 I'm from Bahstan. Where are you at?🤷♀️
Oh nice shed! I do all my organization like Dominos too.
My wife and I call those "divorce machines" Nice job getting up and running. For a split second I thought "he's gona run that kayak through it!" Cheers
Congratulations! I love the style you film in... I'm making a list of your tricks so I can steal them.
You're getting there Tom, good job.
Good next step. Progress where you can is key!
I got cool stickers, inspiration, heard great music, and was able to watch someone restore his old Mustang the same way I do my Falcon! 😊
Love the car and vids. Did you have much experience working on cars before this? Do you know what you are going to to with the paint yet? Rattle can? Leave the patina?
My experience prior to this was general maintenance, so this car is a learning project for sure. Paint vs. patina: hell, I might not even wash it.
@ I like your style 👍
Love the car, love the grumpy tired mood, enjoying the cursing, hope you can fix bad rust spots, have a good time with the car.
Jesus Tom, you are 6' 3" and you have been cramming yourself inside that metal box for two years? Dedication. Congrats! What is next?
Next: rear frame rail/trunk rust
Nice man

Glad to have you back!
Fucken-A is right man! It felt good seeing you behind the wheel again. The long journey just got a little shorter. She’s looking good.
That’s a big step! You made the right call on the headliner.
Now they'll break the window to get in.
You must be a lot of fun at parties.
Good job on the floor. A job i have got to do myself on the 66. I am wondering why you are stripping the panel of paint. Mine got delivered in black as well and i just drill them and weld them in. I thought I read they are covered in black weld thru primer. Keep at it!
the black coating is called EDP. it is a primer but not a weld-thru primer, so at minimum you should remove around weld areas and add your own weld-thru. EDP is primarily to protect the body panel in storage. I've seen it flake off some panels in the past, so I decided to strip and repaint myself. Honestly not sure if it was worth the time, ha.
Thanks!
I need to get a project stang so badly
I’ve watched innumerable car restoration videos and this one is amazing. Great job on all aspects of your build!
Thanks! Appreciate it!
On a scale 1-10 how tired are you of working on this car
between 4-5. Not too crazy tired of it. The repetitive nature of the welding has worn me down the most. Can't wait to get back to the mechanical stuff.
Looks to be getting all cut out of it and replaced. It’ll be over probably before first snow
perhaps you haven't seen the rear frame rail, ha. I'll be spending my winter in the trunk.
What a job ! what savagery ! but it’s progressing ! go go Tom !
Just came across your channel from Reddit and find out you're in the same state! Very cool, just trying to get into my project car, its been almost 2 years since I got it and life + body got in the way!
Hey, man! I just watched your videos. Seems like you gave up on it a couple years ago, so cool if you're giving it a renewed try. In many ways, your car looks ssssooo much better than mine, but we've got different end goals, which makes all the difference. Hope you make some progress on it. (PS: I did the same exact thing when I looked at my cowl during the buy, and mine was completely rotted on both ends. ah well).
@@tompappalardo Appreciate you checking out my car. I did abandon it soon after I started because of the mountain of work, but am resolved to at least give it a good try. I'm no pro at this stuff, but its therapeutic to some degree. Funny that I know what to look for in a buy NOW lol
I’m working on my own “six” right along with you. Had it for a year and the damn thing keeps showing new things for me to fix. Finally drove it sorta for the first time since 93 under its own power for a tank of gas but it still has a vacuum leak needs body work (hail damage or it was just used as a shelf the whole time it was garaged) all new brake system minus the master cylinder which is well on its way soon about to buy another carb since it had one for a manual and it’s auto. Also the cheap one I bought I broke when putting the fuel filter in the front so it now has a lower half made in China with the top half Ford. Exhaust needs to go really bad linkages are loose all over I haven’t even touched the trans except new fluid and filter but it shifts fine so I’ll probably leave that until it eats itself and the diff seal needs replaced. I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot but I’ll likely get done about the same time as you do since I have about the same barriers as you. I was hit on my motorcycle in 2019 and broke my spine so I have my own back problems and I feel for you with your potato chip column. Keep yer head up and yer chin down or something like that. I enjoy watching your videos when I’m taking a break from my own project.
She may not look like much, and she ain't got it where it counts
Great video, its fun to see DIY work. Agreed on the seam sealer.
Damn fine job! Always look forward to a new episode. Cheers from here.
Tom- Congrats on the floor. Thats such an achievement, and it looks really good. The carpet will hide all sins anyway.... Rock on
