    Hi. I have a question. At 37 weeks I was told by the sonographer that my baby’s stomach is empty, that it is tiny at this time. But a week before there was no mention of that. We were told a week ago that it was all fine. But on this ultrasound, the sonographer didn’t redo it after 20 mins. Could it be possible that it was just a transient physiological emptying? Thank you in advance

      Thanks for your question. As trisomy’s may accompany with short or absent nasal bones in different gestational ages different measurements are provided in charts which used with other data such as nuchal translucency and some lab data to show risk of trisomy. High risk patients would then tolerate amniocentesis.

    What happend if nasal bone is absent.

    • @sonographydiscussion259
      @sonographydiscussion259 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absent nasal bone can be a clue of genetic problems such as Down syndrome and articles say more than 80 percent of fetuses with absent nasal bone have genetic problems however this fetus had normal lab data and although in 36 weeks gestation still the nasal bone was small (4 mm) we followed the baby and after birth the baby was normal. He or she is now 3 months old.

      @sonographydiscussion259 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know existence of nasal bone and its size is just a criteria which in company with other data such as nuchal translucency or lab data helps to find high risk fetuses and of course the nasal bone can develop later but at each gestational age it has normal value and its absence or hypoplasia is just a clue for genetic problems but not always show anomaly or genetic problem. Different articles provide different measurements however it is about 8 in 18 weeks and grow to about 11 mm in 35 weeks however like in adults prominent adrenal gland would be recognised by experienced sonologist.

      Yep you are right color doppler sonography would help us to differentiate from hyperplasia and other dufferencial diagnosis such as haemorrhage or neuroblastoma but in this case we do not see a distinct mass separate from adrenal gland or any mass effect.
