    Grew up in this neighborhood. Tried cocaine for the first time at 12 years old. Had a pedo try to pick me up (george wiley), all while pollution was raining down on us from the nearby steel factories... have seen a lot of shit go down here. Do not move near Barton. (FYI, my life is great now, so no worries)

    Lived there in the East end my whole life. (58 years). Now I thank God I moved during the pandemic. It was once a proud working class, blue collar city. Shoutout to Eissenburg and Horvath for turning it into a filthy, disgusting, drug infested shithole.

    At 22:48. At far left is St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. This is one of the oldest churches in Hamilton.

    At 22:02. At far right is Canadian Tire, another Canadian success story. A hardware store with probably 20 locations in Hamilton. This is a small store, but there are big locations of Upper James, Nash Road, and at Center Mall.

  • @BunnyWatson-k1w
    @BunnyWatson-k1w 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 20:33. At far left is Tim Horton's, a national donut chain. There are at least 100 in the Hamilton area and the first location of the chain (called Number One) still stands on Ottawa Street. I hear Tim Horton's has locations in the U.S., Pakistan, England, and some Canadian foreign military bases.

    At 20:20. That is the First Place building at left. Stands at 25 stories and was built in the late 1970s. It houses people in geared to income units, mainly seniors and disabled people.

    @BunnyWatson-k1w 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 13:18. That is the Homestead apartment building (formerly Century 21 building) at right. It is still the tallest building in Hamilton at 47 stories.

    At 9:01. That's Hamilton Place at far left. A 2500 seat venue, it has hosted many world class music and comedy there. I saw Liberace, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Jerry Seinfeld, Simple Minds, and others play there over the years.

    What a dump of a once great mall. The Eaton Centre Mall (or Hamilton City Centre) closed last year for a condo development. Freshii moved out. Nations has a lost a lot of business since the lockdown in 2020. There are many closed stores. It all went down hill when Eaton's closed in 2001. The vendors I know are trying to hang on but it is difficult. The market and library have reduced hours. There are street people with nothing to do everywhere. And there are increased levels of violent crime in the downtown core. Yet condo building keep getting built and rents continue to skyrocket.

    You couldn't move in Jackson Square on a Saturday. Then limeridge mall was built and changed that! The mall needs a major architectural change especially to the exterior. With the amount of downtown condos going up in the next few years the mall will see crowds again . They should plan for that . 5:30

    My father used to tell me stories about growing up in "The Jungle". He went to Bathurst Heights high school though, so I'm not sure if this is in the same area that he referred to. Having grown up less than ten miles from Detroit city limits I can honestly say that this is nothing compared to American ghettos. Maybe The Jungle was rougher in the 70s? 🤷‍♂

    • @BunnyTheChi
      @BunnyTheChi ปีที่แล้ว

      I grew up on Hotspur Road, went to Baycrest PS and Sir Sandford Fleming. I had many friends who lived here in the 70s. We used the term "jungle" to describe this area but I don't think anyone understood it. I remember hearing about "the chain gang" in the 70s that apparently came about from this area. I don't think it was any worse in the 70s. We moved away in 79 and other than driving to Yorkdale I didn't spend any time in this area after that time.

      I live here. That high school’s called John Polanyi CI now. And yeah, the area was rough back in the 90s (from what I’ve heard from my older relatives), and it still is today. Even had a stray bullet fly through my window once. As soon as I graduate college and get an adult job, I’m moving tf out! 🤣
