September 14 2024 German Genealogy Group Presentation Many German emigrants came from the Habsburg, rather than the German Empire and its precursor states. Since the Habsburg Empire had political, administrative, linguistic, and religious structures that differed greatly from those in the German Empire, researching the former Habsburg Empire is very different.

There is much propaganda built into this presentation. No actual discernible ancestral connection beyond a “Narrative.” DNA tests to determine ancestry are for entertainment value only according to the very DNA companies that offer such a horoscopic rendering of one’s heritage. The records put forth only dilutes the picture by not providing any account of any probable link or connection to any homeland heritage nor birthright. Good job of attempting to maintain a transported belief of inferiority and slave lineage. 🤦🏾‍♂️

hello, greetings from Germany! I apreciate your video, even being a german myself I didn t know a few of them. I live in the old prussian region "Rheinprovinz" wich is covert by the organisation "Westdeutsche Gesellschaft für Familienforschung" ( WGfF) you mentioned. It is true that the contend is gated behind a membership but its only 40 € a year and I can tell you IF your ancester is from the old "Rheinprovince" you will probably find him in the chirch or goverment marriage record lists. They don t have official scans of records but lists of the important informations or for the chirch side they have family books which can be a tressure trove for informations. good luck to all of you.

Don't forget the Sanborn fire maps. The mantra of find the original will become impossible if documents are scanned and the original document is discarded. I can not fathom anyone loading a flash drive into their computer (or whatever we are using 10 years from now) to see what's on it. Paper. I choose paper. When it comes time for my children to clean out my house the chances that they save my notebooks are greater if they can open it and see what it is. If I have a box of flash drives.........are they going to stop throwing stuff into the dumpster to see what they are throwing away? My children won't take the time to look at what's on a flash drive. Will the family at Thanksgiving dinner pass around their phones to see photos of relatives/ancestors? Not likely. Those photos will be lost forever. Who is going to keep up the "rent" for cloud storage? Someone may for a while but for how long? Genealogy interest too often skips a generation or two. Everything we have gathered and saved will be gone.

Excellent ideas on how to make things relatable to current family members and make your ancestor come alive. Nice job..

The section on organising the File Directories is very useful. I shall go back through that writing down the categories and subdivisions. This is a great help for people like me in the early stages who've gathered lost of info but haven't recorded it elsewhere than the big online search engines for Family History. We all need a plan before starting so having a concrete example which we can adapt to suit our needs is extremely helpful so thank you.

Holy cow, are ya all mad at us? Sound is awful. Get the speaker to dub over this. I've been working on my family line for over 40 years. The more I look the more I find. My mother's mother was born in New Boston, Texas in 1903. The family migration pattern was from Scottland to North Carolina then to Tennessee before the late unpleasantness of the civil war. From Tennessee to Texas and to Arkansas. From Arkansas my grandmother went to St Louis and then to Michigan because of the automotive industry. Teagards...
