35 years later and still no real improvement in the spin in Germany. Beside Peter Sack, there was not one good spinner. From a technical aspect there is not real progression. Even more, the athletes back then looked more athletic. Every bigger US college could chalenge a german champion easy.

Ultra rare. Always ask myself, what the GDR guys could have achived if the started study the spin and its advantages.

Dirk was really explosive shorter thrower. One of the most friendly 20m+ guys Ive could talked to. Had also a huuge south african, but could not hit it from a full spin.

Fantastisch dat Ria Stalman in 1984 tijdens de Olympische Spelen een gouden medaille heeft behaald op het onderdeel discuswerpen!! De andere kant van de medaille is, dat deze grootste charlatan van de Nederlandse Atletiek jarenlang stelselmatig doping heeft gebruikt en dit ook altijd heeft ontkend. Het is ook ongelofelijk dat er totaal géén actie is ondernomen door de KNAU om de destijds ''verdiende'' inkomsten terug te vorderen. Een groot deel van haar leven heeft ze haar rekeningen hiermee betaald en heeft daarmee ook zeer zeker een vermogen opgebouwd. Haar ware aard heeft ze pas écht laten zien door het gebruik van doping op te biechten nadat de termijn van 10 jaar verstreken was. Wat ontzettend laf. De Olympische medaille mocht ze dan ook behouden. Ik walg van deze "sportvrouw'' ! Als Ria Stalman naar die gouden medaille kijkt, zal ze de schittering zien van een Leugenaarster......

Fantastic film. So many useful and imitative movements that have been forgotten in favor of only power gains. Range of application is most important- lots of core and arching power in these guys. lnteresting to see markers for javelin draw back for the athletes actually on the runway- a shoe for Kopyto and a white ball for Sidlo.

Brian Siders is terrifically strong. wow. Raw Squat- 785 lb/356 kg. Raw Bench Press - 650 lb/295 kg. Raw Deadlift - 840 lb/381 kg! His last Arnold was 2010, when he placed low (10th). His highest placing was 5th. And he is natural; no PEDs

Arnold did something important with this contest. This was the best strongman contest in the world for a number of years at a critical time when it was needed for the sport. Now there are others but this show pioneered it. WSM had failed for a number of reasons.

Nice! Something not stressed, especially in the west enough. Flexible strength. Johann Vetter for example. Too much over strength training, destroying his body. He has a very developed weightlifting body. But destroying himself in the process.

l read the articles he wrote while in high school and based my training on the weighted ball throw plan he listed. Got my university coach to buy this film and the ''stubby'' javelins in 1975.

Most of those events have been discontinued because they were too dangerous or else they were not really good tests of strength. Interesting how the sport has evolved to standard events.

Thank you for posting this. Jim Banich was my high school sweetheart and a dear friend. We lost him to suicide in 2014. His dream was to compete in the Olympics, and I always wondered if his failure to make the team in these Olympic trials began the long spiral to that tragic day.

210 kg for overhead is huge (Gary Taylor) Since then Z and Eddie Hall did 215 and 216 kg respectively on the axle press -- which they also cleaned. No cleaning motion in this competition, however, making it easier. Still very impressive though.

I kid u not I was a kid of like 15 years old 1981 the old Track Series we used too have in NZ in the Northern Hemisphere winter Jan-Feb down here Auckland & Geoff Capes had won the Shot Put competition & was leaning on a normal sized bus that the Athletes had come in & he is back to it breathing heavily & the Whole bloody bus was moving if only I had a camera omg I’ve never seen anything like it before or since it was incredible

And he goes on to throw 94.58m and win the Olympics in 76! World record and Olympic gold at the same time - awesome!!

This was not a push press. He did initiate the press movement with a body heave (aggressively pushing forward the hips, and using a backbend). This was still a valid olympic press

George Wood threw me his goalkeepers gloves when he played for Cardiff against Enfield in the FA Cup and Geoff Capes gave me and my brother the V’s when he was behind us in a car on the flyover in Cardiff!
