    Or you could just get a seedling from a nursery and keep it in a small pot? Plants generally only grow the size of their pot (that doesn’t work with every plant so choose carefully and do your research). I have bonsaied a frangipani by keeping it in a small pot, it does great

      The problem is this is the worst way to do it. Nearly 100% of those seed varieties require very specific conditions to germinate, and unless you're going to soak those seeds for 24 hours and then store them in the fridge for 6 months, you will never get a single seedling. No, this product is specifically designed to take advantage of people with limited knowledge and fleeting interest in bonsai. The packaging is paper. It’s not designed to be placed outside, in a fridge, anywhere where there may be mild humidity, or even survive spillover from watering. The cups you place soil have no holes. If you ever were to get a seedling, the water has nowhere to go; making the seedling susceptible to root rot and over-watering. It's designed to be placed on a window sill, watered once, and forgotten about. Until you see it 6 months later, fantasize about what will never be, blame yourself, water it once more, and forget about it again; rinse repeat until you throw it out. Not to mention the seeds sent to you are all trash varieties. While they are of desirable species for bonsai, they are not going to be dwarf varieties or be in any way desirable for bonsai -they're going to be several-year-old, dormant seeds of a common variety. Yes, you can grow bonsai from seed, but this is not how you do it. Part of the reason this is so bad is that seeds cost practically nothing. Do yourself a favor, look at your zone, look to see what species can grow in your zone, and then select a dwarf variety or otherwise notable strain. Search online for a reputable seller of said variety, and you'll notice it'll cost you like $5 for 15 seeds -whereas buying 15 saplings could easily run you $1.5k. Next, identify the necessary conditions for germination -do they need to be scarified, stratified, or soaked and for how long? Typically, you're going to want to buy some sphagnum or peat moss. Soak it for 24 hours separate from your seeds, then drain it, squeeze out the water, put it in a zip-lock bag with your seeds, and put it in the fridge for the necessary stratification period -make sure to set a notification on your phone so you don't forget about them after a few months. Buy yourself some 3” pots and a few germination trays -they cost roughly 15¢ a piece; just multiply by your number of seeds. After stratification, unless otherwise advised, don't plant them until you see their radicals immerge. After potting, routinely water them, and place them in a window sill until they outgrow their 3” pot. You will then transplant them outside in a known location; where you will finally have your nursery stock in 3 more years. Now, can you see why it's advised to just buy a $20 sapling from your local gardening center or nursery?

    • @sporilight
      @sporilight 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@person14838 Alright then, it's still better to buy a young sapling from a reputable source than throw in your lot with trying to raise them from seeds yourself (which may or may not even be viable), especially in teeny tiny cups that don't have nearly enough room to grow and will also dry out very quickly. There's also the added benefit to finding them in the wild (besides low cost investment) which is at least you know for sure they will survive well in your biome AND you don't have to wait the 3+ years it takes to get to an age where you can start shaping them 🤷‍♀️ I'm just saying, not everybody has the money to invest in what can become a potentially expensive hobby and it's easy to get discouraged if you are new to the hobby and begin from seed.

      @@person14838 it's best to work with native / naturalised non-native species anyway since they can be kept outdoors in their proper climate.
