This would have to be the worst recording of a concerto I've ever had the misfortune to listen to. The solo instrument is subordinated to every other one in the orchestra. Where on earth were the mikes placed? Someone must have had it in for poor Guy Shepherd, because he plays it very well and it is a lovely work. Pity

I'm playing this solo and the only part is hard for me is the 2nd movement bell tones because I can't get the low Bb to be so boomy.

Bravo! I performed this Sonatina on my College Junior piano recital - back when it was only available in 4 movements. My performance was almost exactly like yours in the first and final movements. The 2nd movement I played as a very solemn dirge like pirce. In the 3rd movement I took those opening chords and their reoccurrence as a trumpet fanfare excusing that something was coming - and it was. I love that 3rd movement. I don’t know why he edited that movement out. The sonatina sounds so unfinished without all 4 moments. You played it very well. Thank you.

Tried to play this and found it not to be pianistic in places. I did find some wrong notes throughout. The voicing of notes were to dense in places as they were taken from the original score i believe. Has anyone successfully learnt to play this?

Congratulations to Guy Shepherd, Thomas Payne, and all the young orchestra members for the truly wonderful and engaging playing of Anderson's Piano Concerto. At my age I am happy to see and hear the future of classical music at work here and now. Be strong and courageous and press on with your musical careers.

Wonderful concerto and performance. It was written at a time when this concerto and others were largely ignored because of a spate of more avant-garde music.

I'm assuming this was played by a computer? There's no way that intro is possible at that speed with that accuracy... Is there?

Who knew the composer of Fiddle-Faddle wrote a bonafide piano concerto? Apparently it took the Brits to let us Americans know there were others out there beside the Gershwin and MacDowell.

Kudos on a terrific performance. This was the first piano concerto that I performed and recorded as a soloist. I have always loved Leroy Anderson's music, and am delighted that you chose this work! Very well done!
