Almost 59 years ago, the same thing happened to my parents when they were leaving the hospital with me. A couple who couldn’t have children proposed to my Daddy to buy me, at a phenomenal amount in those days. I can only imagine how they regretted approaching my Daddy with such a crazy proposition, because he minced no words. Lol We lived in a very small town where everyone knew everyone. My Daddy and Mama never revealed who this couple was although I’m sure they knew them. They assured my parents that they weren’t kidding and were very serious. If those people are still alive, I have no doubt that their ears are still ringing at the telling off they received. Lol. Incidentally, I had the best, happiest childhood. My Daddy was the best man whoever lived and a wonderful father. He doted on me and as I did him. I was born on his birthday. He’s been gone 19 years but the love I have for him is as strong as it ever was. ❤

I’ve read these books no telling how many times since I was a little girl. I still can’t believe she wore a black dress for her wedding, even though they didn’t have a church wedding. Here in the South, that absolutely wouldn’t have been done and would be considered in very bad taste. We don’t even wear black to a wedding as a guest. As strict and upright as Ma was, I can’t believe Ma didn’t forbid it. 😮

I live about 60 miles from DeSmet, South Dakota where this story takes place, last week-end for four days it was down in the -10s and -20s and the wind blew so hard across this old prairie that no one left home for days. We didn't have the snow, but I hear ya, Laura, and thank goodness I didn't have to travel outside my home.

I really dont believe Pa Ingalls spanked Laura that hard. Just hard enough to get the message across. Some people left big old welts and strap marks on children. She apparently only ever had one spanking in her whole lifetime.

Spoiler Alert. Oysters? Wth. They aren't any where near the stinkin ocean. Who eats oysters for Christmas , especially in Minnesota.. Mary Christmas to whoever stops to read this! I hope 2025 is a better year for us all. Happy Birthday Baby Jesus! .
