    Oh My GOD !!!!! What a beautiful rendititon of this song. I'm 63 now, and first saw Patmetheny at University of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1982.. Being a PM fan since around '79, this took me back. I had to close my eyes and take a breath, with a little lump in my throat. A great song & a great time back then ... Wish I could turn back the clock to that concert that night .

    Darci and Austin are probobly the best teachers and have the biggest influence on me pursuing drumming. Austin was the percussion tech for the 2023 fsu summer band camp top band and 2024 top band for highschool and although we only had a week to learn 3-4 songs and pretty much have it all memerized he helped sooooooooo much. which is why im putting him down as my "who was the person that shaped you or influenced you the most as a percussionist" for my dci heat wave audtions this year. Thank you Austin.

    This is just peak percussion. Especially tuned percussion. This is such a harmonically and rhythmically sophisticated piece, and you folks performed it with both brilliant technical and artistic execution. As a huge fan of Pat Metheny Group's work (shout out to the late great genius Lyle Mays), I'm stunned by what you did with this, and you should all be incredibly proud of the beauty you brought to this incredible composition.

    I’m just curious about the rehearsal technique of efficiency in which you give feedback during the playing. I wanted to know if you think that is as effective on the younger side of ensemble rehearsal for middle school or early high school students. I had previously learned that it is difficult for younger students to take that feedback and remember it in real time while playing. The ability to jump between thoughts that quickly does not come as easily at a young age. Have you ever done in clinics with younger ensembles where you’ve noticed that disconnect?

    • @floridastateuniversityperc5193
      @floridastateuniversityperc5193 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! So happy to hear from you! I have found that it is still effective, just more reminders are typically needed during brief stops in playing. And yes, lots of clinics with HS and MS groups of all levels--I've also found that it's somewhat program "cultural," the more consistency students experience the easier it is for them to focus and remember. Plus that can also be pretty fun and funny for them sometimes--which can also reinforce the instruction.

    On another important note: Pat Metheny and some of the Greats Should Be Obligated and Required at Every Music School here and abroad. Observing how the Essence of Real Music has been fading away from its very Roots and 'giving way' to this horrible, tasteless and insipid 2-3 chord "new music" (more like noise just repeating...) that just "hurts" my ears and I'm sure many, many other Music Lovers from the 60's, 70's, 80's where music grew to a form of Art Exponentially and then Rap and the rest of the garbage came along pyling up like a giant mound of filthy noise where no one could identify what was what... We Need to Do an "Archaic Revival" if True Music is to Survive in the Future.

  • @Phoenix-One0922
    @Phoenix-One0922 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've heard this song by Pat over the years and each time I played it I discovered something that I've might have missed before... It always sounded 'new' to me just like Minuano or have you heard, you know, the hard ones with the most complicated and intricate tonalities. But this cover (if you can call it a "cover") more like a MasterPiece of the Original... Wow, wow, WOW..!! What a pleasant and harmonic surprise... I would never imagine that this piece could've been entirely done on Xilophones (Marimba) and Tubular Bells... Simply and Utterly Exquisite to my ears... Like Falling in Love with Pat Meheny All Over Again!!
