That's why they called him "ajoruko tí ìyà àti bàbà ó sọ́" .. Lagelu came from Ilé-ifẹ̀ on a mission to wage war in support of the Awórì against the Benin and the Portuguese at about 1640 in Lagos.. The Ọlọ́fin Ìsheri of the Awórì who were the land owners of Lagos sent message about the excesses of the Portuguese in collaboration with the Benin people.. Lagelu made stop-over at Ọba Ẹ̀gbá Gbágùrá in the current Ibadan at the time who also gave him warriors and he also got support from Ipara - Rẹ́mọ.. Lagelu went there fought the war and defeated them, but the Benin traders were allowed to stay provided they acknowledge the supremacy of the Awórì the original dwellers and owners of the land who they met there.. It was on his return that the Ẹ̀gbá Gbagura King urged him to stay and remain with them and gave him parcel of land in current Àwọ́tan area of Ibadan.. Lagelu was never Baalẹ̀ of Ibadan.. The current Ibadan started with Mayẹ̀ Okunade.. Lakanlẹ̀, Ọdẹ́rìnlọ̀, Ibikunle, Ọ̀sungbekun (never became Baalẹ̀),, and others who waged war against Owu..That's another deep history.. Kalẹ̀jaiye led Ìjẹ̀bú warriors.. Olúyọ̀lé did a coup against Lakanlẹ̀ who would have become Baalẹ̀ and he committed suicide.. Ọdẹ́rìnlọ̀ ended as Balogun, he never became Baalẹ̀.. He was supposed to be but he declined that he had an expedition.. It was after his return that he died. He was never installed as Baalẹ̀.. Likewise. Balogun Ìbíkunle, Ọ̀sungbekun and Akéré..This guy himself said that Ìbíkunle was not installed as Baalẹ̀ just as MKO never became President, yet counts him as one.. Is that not crazy?? That tells you that he doesn't know what he is saying. These warlords of Ibadan has their homes and families in Ibadan.. Aare Òpìtàn Lájì Abass of Ibadan has said this many times with proven facts from personal research (ìtọpinpin) history books including the one called "Ìwé Ìtàn Ibadan" written by Ọba Akinyẹle, one of the past Olúbàdàn mentioned by this guy.. He wrote the book before he became Olúbàdàn... It is appalling these days that we do not not appreciate our own but relying on an Ibo man taking advantage of the cracks to be telling us our history..
