Thank you so much, an excellent focus on "the soul cages" creating process, the best ever about it !! My favourite Sting solo song!! Come on Sting, you should play it live again !!❤
@@saga55 We just have to hope Dominic can convince Sting to play it!
@@guessthatrecord yes they played it live for the last time in 2005 during the broken music tour ( it was a comeback since the soul cages tour), we know that they did it during a 2017 soundcheck in Tokyo and they played a little snippet briefly together (Dominic and Sting) last year on a video
One of my fav Police songs ever. Thanks.
@@michaelbeasley5783 it is a great track for sure!
@guessthatrecord I actually like it it better than Synchro 1. If I've committed sacrilege, sorry
@ I agree with that all the way, II is better
Don't get me wrong. I so like Synchro 1 well enough.
I agree. Guitar is key in that song. I love it. One of my top 5 The Police songs
@@alvaroperez9995 🎸🎸
Funny, I was just watching the video for that song. It was the late Markie Post at the Kraft table, not Jane Fonda. She was playing his mom on a sitcom at the time
My favorite part is where they reveal which track they’re referring to.
@@turnkeydirect It's the song attached to the bottom of the reel that's playing in the background. The Soul Cages
Powerful album
@RodneySheffield-i8q Sting's best solo album in my opinion
I love Andy Summers ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@LiBSP566 🤘🤘
Great video! Thanks a million!
@@slobodanudarac5 Thank you for watching!
Honestly I think it's the hardest on Stewart Copeland. He probably uses most parts of his drums and if he misses just one of those drum hits he's going to fuck up the song in the studio or in concert. He's playing the hardest in this, as in he's playing the most aggressively, really hitting the drums with clenched fists.
@@twinpeakswithoutthemagic Absolutely! It's a great song for all three of them.
@@guessthatrecord Yeah! It’s a million miles away or many miles away from Roxanne or Can’t Stand Losing You, when they were still testing the water as a band writing songs.
I could listen to Susan Rodgers for hours
She's awesome!
I'll never get enough of Susan talking and teaching
@@n0kturna1 She's awesome :)
Barry is a terrific horn player and part of an excellent band.
@@Kevrey He is awesome!
I love the little funk intro with the guitar riff that’s included on the video version but left out of the radio edit. It kind of foreshadowed the parade era.
@@JamminJ-xe2bd That's a great observation!
Somehow, TH-cam brought me here, and now I want to listen to "Raspberry Beret" again... very closely, lol. There's SO much going on in his songs that I missed as a teen! Thank you for sharing this with us!
@@Mellie_H Glad to have you here! We have even more amazing interviews for you to check out 😎
I can listen to these stories all day.
@@Danny-sd5vm There’s more on the channel!
The B sides really pushed that album over. "She's Always in my Hair", "America" 20 minute version, "Hello" and "Girl". It was almost like getting 2 albums from him back then. If you weren't feeling side A, you would just flip it over. Nobody was putting bonafide hits on B sides. I mean nobody. Now they have people releasing "music" that is less than 3 minutes long. So Sad
I usually liked his b-sides better. She’s Always in My Hair and 17 Days are two of my favorites.
And Hello and Erotic City
I love this inter-generational conversation. She's so kind and nurturing and not condescending at all. He's so respectful and reverent of such a wealth of experience of knowledge.
@@andrewjones9991 Glad you enjoyed it! Susan is awesome
22:00 Purple Rain: when you’re such a masterful artist that you have to do YOUR OWN biopic before your career has even hit its peek. And then that very album and film catapults you to that very peek! Only Prince. Only Prince. 0)+>
Purple Rain is so good, and it was amazing to speak with Susan who worked on it :)
Gasp!!! Watermelon in Easter Hay 38:10 The 3 minute blues jam? Do tell when or where!!! Do I have to wait for the box set? Just give it time.
I could listen to her 10 or even more hours.
@jeromejamies3641 Could always do a part 2...
Yeah. It’s evident why they worked together for so long and produced such ground breaking music.
It's unbelievable how much energy and creativity Prince had. Unbelievable! Whenever I listen to Raspberry Beret I am immediately in a good mood, love that song so much.
@jeromejamies3641 It’s one of my favorite Prince songs too!
Why did Wendy do the string arrangement ? Was Prince not able to ?
@mustardegg2 I think Prince wanted her to do it, it's as simple as that. As Susan explained in our interview, it was very easy for him to record everything himself, but he liked including his other musicians whenever he could. Probably to add flavors and textures he wouldn't be able to replicate.
He just let other people contribute to his song, well, that's indeed rare, but sometimes it happened. Prince could play a lot of instruments, but strings and cello he would have to record with a synth, and real instruments sound better on this song imo
I thought she said Lisa Coleman did the string arrangements?
@@antonioscolotti8558 Good catch, that's correct!
He famously contracted out string arrangements. He collaborated with Claire Fischer throughout his career for string arrangements. “Collaborated” for lack of a better word, because they never even met or spoke with each other.
Great interview.

Really amazing, this interview with Susan Rogers. I am also enjoying your other interviews, great job Jackson!

Susan Rogers was so moved by working with Prince that she went back to school and got her PhD in neuropsychology. She's seen Prince as being clinically hypercreative. Her interviews are so enchanting along with Peggy McCreary... the other engineer who worked with Prince a LOT back then.

Jem is brilliant, saw the Pogues last March on Hackney Empire.
@@irishroverandthecrew Awesome!
Your an absolute legend unreal
People still don't realise that Shane was posh upper class kid and went private school and he played an act his whole career! The alcohol and heroin and crack was real but the personality wasn't
He went there on a scholership so hardly a posh upper class kid
Incorrect - Shane's family lived in the Brutalist Barbican Estate in London. That's an estate as in concrete flats, not a country mansion. Yes he went to Westminster School but that's because he got a scholarship due to his writing skills so didn't have to pay any fees. In any case he didn't last long there as he got expelled for smoking weed. Shane was in no way posh or upper class.
With every passing day the moment that was the Pogues passes but the music will always inspire the souls that hear and feel the call. Thanks Jim your an absolute legend ❤🙌
