DIY'er Builds a Barn #12 - Trench Block Finale
This arch is way to thin. Its stones should be twice « higher ». And the precision of the wood joints is terrible. That will weaken the long term stability and solidity of the structure.
Outstanding
No compacted gravel base, incomplete and shoddy constructed forms, wrong materials used for the forms (using plywood instead of something sturdy like 2x6 boards for example), poorly graded and poorly measured trenches, corners not measured at 90° angles, not having proper finishing or screeding tools, no rebar or reinforcement, second batch concrete too wet, and finally trying to tackle this by yourself without any help.
and a cup of tea :)
I'm Alex as well, love building as well, stone work gives me headaches as well, subscribed! Good work!
everything is soaked in every video! does it really rain that much where you live?
Greetings from Araguari, Minas Gerais, Brazil Congratulations on your excellent work
It's been a long time! Has. construction stopped for lack of motivation or money?
Hello from El Paso Texas U.S.A 👍🏻👍🏻 looks great.
Hey watching from Michigan really enjoying the commentary and craftsmanship. 7/10 for cut accuracy and 9/10 for efficiency made me laugh. keep up the great work!!
Why not just make it to fit by design? A whole lot of tesr fit up happening....ooof.
Liked for Jehova!
When you get the Snooker Table in I will fly from Sudbury Ontario Canada to play Ronnie O'Sullivan if he agrees
Hi, it’s Rich from Toronto. Recently discovered your channel, and have just watched to here from the beginning. Looking forward to the remaining episodes, but so far this was my favourite. Excellent work on the arch. Well done.
I hope you watch Kris Harbour

Thank you for this fun series and sense of humor. Liked and subscribed. Currently following from my native Prishtina, Kosovo, but will return to Houston, TX later this week.
Great video - Stones themselves are like bricks - what kind of stones are they ?
Watching from Naestved, Denmark.. love the work
Hello, greetings from Europe from Slovakia. I am delighted with your oversized wooden building and I can't wait for the next part. fingers crossed for good luck.
Beautiful work, I'm from the state of Mato Grosso Brazil and I love seeing this type of construction.
Nice Work & Video 👍
Sympathy from the Toronto Scottish RFC, but calling from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories also in Canada but very far away. Nice barn, nice timbers, nice stonework. Cheers
Your humour is appreciated from a hammock in Curaçao, keep it up champ! Also, wondering what you might use that chain mortiser for in the future…
Worried about dust put uses a sheet and no chainsaw chaps. Naughty naughty 😂
love your videos
Every electric tool works with white magic smoke, when it gets out the tool is dead.
Great job! I'm Danilo, Cheers from São Paulo - Brazil.
Hey, Cam from Seattle, Washington. Really cool series to start following, been wanting to do exactly this in my backyard in a couple of summers. May steal some ideas from you. Watching from the beginning episodes you can really see your craftsmanship improve greatly and quality and speed as well. Good job with the build.
Hi Alex, try suspending a weight (small sand bag) underneath your camera tripod as a counter balance. Might help save your lenses. Cracking videos. Stuart in Robin Hood's Nottingham
Brilliant videos, well done you for braving TH-cam from a DIYer point of view. We need more of you on TH-cam, keep the content coming.
And what kind of midlife crisis do you have
Hello from Denmark. I live in a small village called Løjt Kirkeby. Assuming you have to look it up. :-) Thanks for some interesting videos. It is very exciting to follow your project. Looking forward to seeing the final result. Good luck going forward Regards, Jan
I dont understand the moisture proof level? Seems like the only thing that connects all of the building above it is gravity?
Nice Build from lake Almanor ,CA ,USA.
love this building...
Why use a carpenter when you can do it yourself........this film shows why - sorry
Shouldnt you put sealer on the block foundation before you cover it up with dirt for the slope?
I like the time lapse noise. Reminds me of the Benny Hill show.
I am renovating an 1800`s carriage house in the western US, (I am from the UK). The building has been sitting essentially on dirt, as the stone foundation had largely disintegrated. With no previous experience, I dug out in sections under the building, and poured a perimeter foundation. I have made a lot of progress, but my lack of experience has led to making mistakes, that are compunded with every following stage of work. So, you are not alone with mistakes like the un-level concrete pour.
I do see the Promethius reference. 🤔
Jeff from the tiny town of Salem in Connecticut, US. Greatly enjoying the video series. I admire your ambition and positive attitude. Not so sure about a few of your sketchier methods, but you still appear to be in one piece and the barn itself looks great. You've inspired me to try something new on my next video: a voice over.
Hi Alex, I've just find your chanel. Nice videos. Folowing from Araçatuba, São Paulo. Brazil.
For the project you’re doing, and completely along with out experience I wouldn’t be to concerned about the length of time it’s taking great job.Mike Winder Georgia USA
Can you bury items in plastic bags or garbage bag without bugs eating through them..seems possible
Lovely work !
you're getting there, but why do you make the Mortices so big,,? The timber is soaking wet. hopefully when the building is finished and the timber dries out it wont shrink too much and open up the joints , although not much but enough to let the bugs in.. I personally would pack out the mortice and tenons before i assemble them..
Love watching your build. Always wanted to try timber framing. Following and subscribed from Cape Breton Canada
For sure pyramidal block is not very useful
