Should THE ACOLYTE get a Season 2??
The recent cancellation of STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE is one of the most divisive decision of recent fandom; while some HATE it, there's also a BIG grassroots campaign to get DISNEY+ to give it another season.
Here's my thoughts:..........and yeah, they're just as split.

Already starting to become a tradition (though it'll be awhile before it's my party), but last year, my sister Kelley had her gender reveal event, and now, our sister Ashley and her husband Corey are welcoming their own this August. ........maybe a fellow birthday twin for little Micah? มุมมอง 168 หลายเดือนก่อน
I honestly knew Robert Ballard first as the "Ocean Science Guy" who ended the episodes of my favorite childhood show SEAQUEST DSV, but everyone else remembers him as "The Man Who Found The Titanic". Here's my thoughts on Ballard's memoirs.
THE BOOKS OF JEFF SHAW (PART 3)
มุมมอง 49 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finishing off Jeff Shaw's books with his most recent, and for me, his best book. Leann, who was a supporting character in LT. TRUFANT, is on the run, returning to her homeland Singapore. However, almost immediately, she's kidnapped and subjected to a sex trafficking ring. However, being a killer herself, what does it mean when the predators have captured another predator?? Definitely check out ...
The Books of Jeff Shaw (Part 2)
มุมมอง 119 หลายเดือนก่อน
After his first novel, I checked out WHO I AM: THE MAN BEHIND THE BADGE, Shaw's memoir of his decades-long career as a police officer in Florida. Very much an "Everyman" story dealing with the crime and decay in 80s and 90s America, with plenty of tragedy but just as much gentle moments.
The Books of Jeff Shaw (Part 1)

Figured I'd start 2024 going over the works of a fellow author friend, Jeff Shaw. Starting off with his first novel, LIEUTENANT TRUFANT.

Thank you, TH-cam Shorts algorithm, for showing me little Micah having fun and eating a little snack in a swing. ❤
Brad, thank you again for this great review of my career. Those years in Law Enforcment were often horrific and depressing, but the good times and the experience of helping others balanced out everything else. They were the best and most rewarding years of my life. - Jeff
Your attitude throughout the book really made it engaging (both the horror and downs totally relatable), but the humor you could find through those experiences also brought that great balance.
Thank you for the kind review, Brad. As I built Trufant's character, and that's the why I describe creating my characters, I wanted him to be realistic. He is a combination of my self and those great detectives I worked with. He/we all have our flaws and unfortunately they are often generic. But I didn't want him to be immune to any of those pressures and so he does come off as a bit cliche although I never thought of it that way. David Armstrong is also one of my favorite characters. Again thanks for this kind review. I pray you do well in this new endeavor. Jeff
David definitely made the book (you literally lived through the decay of his life). Like I said, Trufant's not a bad character, but he just wasn't as memorable for a lead character. But the Cons are far and few and all 3 of your books are good. Here's hoping you gain more readers from this.
great video i hope the prequel is decent
Will you release this story? It sounds good so far!
I've not worked on it for awhile but I've got my outline and what dialogue I've got written, so when I find a good artist, I'll give it a try. Actually recently read BATMAN: WHITE KNIGHT and it has a very similar feel (especially the Mr. Freeze connections with the Wayne family which was cool). Definitely give that a read
I'm actually also working on a crossover with TMNT and the X-MEN called TMNT: FORGOTTEN LORE. It follows the Turtles suddenly turned human and the Shredder has found rerdemption, as they team together to take out Magneto's brotherhood.
@@van8ryan Do you wanna hear my Tony Jay Impression? th-cam.com/video/3yiARpDYItU/w-d-xo.html
I’m enjoying it, lots of information on Lynch life that I’ve never read before, work and personal. Also interesting how the biographer chapters are intercalated by a chapter where Lynch himself comments the object of previous chapter.
Yeah, that makes it all the more intriguing ( I actually wonder whom wrote the chapter first; him or the biographer). Recent Lynch releases through Criterion have actually Lynch reciting passages from this book, which is a cool extra feature)
@@van8ryan Probably Lynch because he comments directly from the previous chapter content, even on specific interviewee remarks. One interesting thing: David calls the Sparky dog by "him", while Mary Fisk and Kristine Mackenna say it's a she. Maybe Lynch likes to remember things his own way LOL.
Since you have the book may I ask if there are two hearing aids and did it state who owned them?
They pretty much follow the story nearly in its entire (apart from whom owns the appliances now), so yes, there's two and they do say who owned them
@@van8ryan Okay what are the former owner's names from the book?
@@Steamer96 Never read the first book, but in the second book, it's an elderly woman they just call "Madam"
@@van8ryan I meant the hearing aids, what where their masters original names?
Brad, thank you so much for the very kind thoughts you've expressed in this video! It's so nice to know that some of the Facebook posts I've shared resonated with you. And thanks for your appreciation of "The Brave Little Toaster" as well! Wishing you all the very best. :-)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I read the book and love the prose however, I found it dated since it was first written. However, some of the dialogue is quite charming and often amusing. I did not like all of Dawes's friends however. LOL
twin peaks is the best show ever fs watch it, if you haven't already
I just recently started watching it on Netflix; slow, but really good so far.
Did you ever finish it? I watched the film, grabbed the book, and am 210 pages in and loving it.
I did eventually, but it took a lot of periods of breaks. Definitely worth finishing.
I love the DVD
Difficult book too read Got it cuz of the DVD
Good job Brad!
Started out a book review but then got on a lost highway...
As long as you're "Wild At Heart"
I just ordered the book 'The Fisherman', by John Langan. Can you please review it? it would be interesting to me what you think of that book. Thank you sir.
Never heard of it. I'll check it out
I'm glad your father is alright! My grandma also got Covid, and we really thought we were going to lose her, but luckily she too pulled through. Anyway, I always find it interesting to hear stories of people who were old enough to understand the gravity of 9/11 when it happened. I was old enough to "know" what the big news story was about, but not mature enough to truly understand it. It's very cool that you have that news clipping of your interview framed, that's a piece of history right there that you'll be passing down to your descendants.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, he was lucky, though even after 8 days in the hospital, he still needed oxygen for nearly two months after.
Thanks for your thoughts on this. I really must get this....
I found two copies of the special edition of The Stone Reader. I saw it at the theater, an independent theater here in Sarasota and fell in love with the movie. I show it to my students. I found a copy recently of the original paper back which is worth $200 and I only paid eight bucks. I read it. It’s a wonderful read with wonderful prose. Feel free to contact me for book discussions. It could be enjoyable.
I found the DVD in used bin. I too was interested in the book as well. Have not read the book yet.
It's not for everyone, but it may have that special "style" that intrigues readers. I've enjoyed it so far; just a slowww read.
It's a touch read bougvt it after the dvd came out stone reader..great dvd!
Yep, a pretty tough read (though have read a third of it and it's still pretty amazing (and yep, STONE READER's a very good documentary, which I've also reviewed)
Great video! I'll be picking this up for sure now, as for watching Twin Peaks I'd really recommend it! I liked Fire Walk With Me and loved the TV show.
Weirdly enough, I've seen FIRE WALK WITH ME, but only one or two episodes of the original series (which I want to watch before seeing the 2010s follow-up). It's a fascinating movie like most Lynch movies
You deserve so many more subs bro I appreciate content like this keep grinding
Appreciate the kind words, man. Hoping to do more "Writing Videos" as they're my "Mental Bread and Butter", but glad you're enjoying the "Intros" (would've loved to do these more "elaborate" and "longer" like classic Joe Bob introductions......but gotta use what ya got)
Although I agree with your message for the most part I also agree that if you share yourself you have to be ready for criticism
For me, yes. I always expect criticisms, but honestly, the whole social environment today is sick and can't change until some people just get it in their minds that Hatred or Bullying solves nothing.
Dude .... awesome
Glad you liked it
Honesty is going to be illegal....
Sadly more than likely (especially if..............)
You are a wonderful soul. Thank you for that!
How much was the book for he-man and she-ra
about 45-50 dollars
though it can probably be found cheaper "Used"
Yesssssssssssssss
Great review ! Thank you very much !
It's funny you say that. Because i just searched for the book and this is about the only thing that comes up. It seems that the book is nearly as utterly obscure as it was pre documentary. Unjustly, because it is a fucking remarkable book, tough read in places, but remarkable.
Recently found the book itself at a local bookstore and hopefully will read it. Have only read about 3 chapters so far, but WOW, the man gives a TON of information in such a short space, so fascinated to see where this is going.
yeah i think that opening paragraph - something about a split melon? - is an amazing outpouring of language. I won't lie, i can't say i was enthralled by every minute of it. There's like a 60 page description of his granddad's racing hounds and a 30 page description of a hair cut! But part two is a lot more fun, a little like a more highborow 'Stand By Me' and the final segent is Mexico is, if anything, too short. Felt kind of abrupt. But i want to read it again (lost my copy somehwere) because i agree with the bloke on the documentary who says 'he's on the genius end of fiction writing curve.'
Thanks for the kind words bud! When you say my channel name it’s pronounced The Almighty. It’s a hidden word( d all my d) 👊🏼🤟🏻❤️
I loved this documentary. I’ve been watching it about 3 times a year since I got it back in 2008 I think.
Awesome. I only got it about two years ago, but as I'm already a book nut, it was a great find
This is interesting: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1170037
I found Stones of Summer in 11th grade in 2004. Took me several months to read it but holy shit was that one of the best experiences of my life. In 12th grade I read it again and found Stone Reader--great movie. Both of these influenced me to major in writing. In 2015 I hung out with Dow Mossman for an afternoon in his living room and that was just an incredible experience. I try to stay in touch with him on the phone every so often; he's a brilliant, wonderful guy.
@@TomDavidMcCauley That's really cool. He does seem like a very nice guy (and clearly very intelligent considering how well done this book is)
Awesome pitch! I’d watch it! #thedeadskeletonshow
Thanks! A Fun idea (just sad Dick Miller won't get his great comeback role)
Never seen this film. Might have to check this out
Love this story

Brad! That was an amazing shout out, thank you 😊 Very cool and I really appreciate your enthusiastic efforts in creating this!
Thanks, man. Hope it gets you more readers!
I was really not expecting a Winnie the Pooh rendition, what a twist :) I have always loved Pooh's voice, nicely done.
Thank you, sir. It's a fun one to try. However, if it's too high-pitched, it becomes the old man Herbert from FAMILY GUY (but the classic Pooh voice, done by Sterling Holloway, always had that bit of an "sweet elderly tone" to it (like a sweet grandpa with no teeth)
Welcome to the comic community! I been enjoying the TMNT and batman too bro👊🏻 Great stuff so I had to sub! Now your channel is under 1000 subscribers so your channel just made my list! I am reading this book now. I am not loving it. I think Milicent was an interesting character, but I feel like Mallory just uses her story as a way to grind her own axe. Yes Milicent was a victim of misogyny, but I feel like at some point this book became less about Milicent and more about sexism. I feel like she could have conveyed the injustices she faced without having to beat us over the head with it constantly
I can see that; there's also moments where you can tell she was running out of things to talk about (she even states it in the book), but considering it's a first-time book, it'll have issues. I enjoyed it enough to check out whatever she does next.
I'm sure if there was some like other writings from other authors we could get a more interesting view of this !! Imagine an famous make up artist, or even people like stephen king or guillermo del toro talking about this, would be great to hear their point of view!
Hi I find this very interesting !! Thank you so much for sharing this lover to hear it! As a girl I can really find inspiration from her and also Happy to see Finally she has that crédito she deserves
Agreed: I was actually surprised it was as much the author's search for her, as well as learning about here. Very good book, and apparently, many are getting much from this review (it's currently my highest viewed video; not that I care, but very glad its getting the word out for this book)
@@van8ryan I'm happy you posted this, is hard to find info about this book and this story, but hey sorry about some words I wrote wrong I speak spanish and my keybord just changes the words automatically hehe, still great work!!
@@punkzillaTV That's perfectly fine. As long as they're "Kind" words, always happy to read them (and yes, Enjoy the book if you get it; it's GREAT!!!)

Nice video Brad. There's a couple of things I must say: First, you seem much more natural in front of a camera than I am. My first video shows me nervous and for some reason I'm a little bouncy with my body language. Second thing, I am very similar in that I prefer female friends over most guys. Women are more mature, they can have fun that doesn't lead to trouble, and they're much prettier. But I can tell by listening to your reasoning behind an all-female cast that you know what you want and what you do not want from your novel. I think that's great and it puts you ahead of so many others who have no idea where to start. I hope to see you novel online or on a shelf for sale someday, somewhere.
Thank you, Jonathan. I vlogged for a long while before I stopped around 2012 (largely because too many students were interrupting me giving instructions in class because they wanted to talk about my videos), so I got plenty of practice being somewhat comfortable on camera (it's my voice that grinds on me still; I feels it's too sluggish for the energy I want to show, but that's also because I'm not boucing over a conversation). I appreciate your thoughts, and hopefully, I'll have a signed book for you and your wife one day.
