Maiden flight of my newly build Align Trex 550X Dominator
มุมมอง 2162 ปีที่แล้ว
Although my flying experience is still very little, I needed a project to keep me occupied over Christmas with my family all back in UK. So I treated myself to an Align Trex 550X Dominator Super Combo kit. I built it over Christmas, swapped the BeastX for an Ikon 2 fbl and this is its maiden flight with what’s left of the battery after final set up. I’m delighted with it and how incredibly stab...

Maiden flight of my Trex 500X
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Maiden solo flight of my Trex 500X and OMG I’m so stoked. She flies great. Big thanks to Kevin Zenner for all your help and patience with my stupid questions. Just need to reduce the Expo as I’m finding I set it too high and then it’s just a case of getting used to her. The size and sound are intimidating to what I’ve been used too, but the feeling of flying something I built myself is incredib...
Maiden Flight Trex 500X

After weeks of building, setting up and stumping myself trying to figure out the fly-bar-less flight controller, the awesome Kevin Zenner came to my rescue today and helped me program and set up my Trex 500X. Here’s its fully dressed maiden flight....
First mounting of my GoPro to my Blade 230 heli
มุมมอง 353 ปีที่แล้ว
Couldn’t resist trying out my new GoPro mount for my small heli, Blade 230 and I’m really pleased with how well it flew given the amount of weight on the side of the heli and that it was windy and started to snow!! Learned a lot ready for next time and an even better, smoother flight

France Diving 2016

This is a short film from a SCUBA diving trip my wife and I did early in 2016 to L 'Enter de Dents, just outside of NICE, where we dived an underwater miniature film set, made in the 1960's for the movie L 'Enfant et la Sirene (The Child and the Mermaid) which was eventually abandone. We also dived "The Grotto" where there is the bust of Commandant Yves le Prieur - inventor of the first self co...

Grizedale Mountain Biking Trail 1
มุมมอง 57411 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a bit of a long movie but I love the riding so much I couldn't bring myself to edit out too much. It is of my friend Neil Braybrook and I riding along one of the many trails at Grizedale, Lake District, back in August 2012. It is my first time out in the area and got me completely bitten by the mountain biking bug. I hope you enjoy... P.s. I hate the way TH-cam limits what platforms can...

Mablethorpe Buggying
มุมมอง 18411 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the best day's kiting I have ever had. Mablethorpe beach, miles of smooth, fast sand. The weather was cold but the day was so great I never felt it. Thank you to my friend Robocourier for taking me.
Can it take a turbine???
I’m not sure Greg as I don’t know much about turbines but space is limited so I doubt it and you’d really struggle getting the heat and exhaust gases out
How well was it packed? 😂 looks awesome.
It was packed really well and in fact took sometime to get into it! Thank you. The build is coming on well 👍🏻
any updates ?
Unfortunately work has got in the way but I have now recently started it. First job was to fill the holes of the cable cutters, as they are not period correct plus to fill the slots where the rocket pods fit as I want a “slick” not gunship
@@siholley2:10
THAT'S SOME SIZE. A COUPLE OF SCALE PILOTS AND DOOR GUNNER WITH CREW CHIEF WOULD REALLY ADD A REALISTIC TOUCH. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.👍
Come so far now you’re getting into a 800 😂
Yeah I’m excited and nervous both at the same time
@@siholley now the maiden on that would definitely have me nervous 😬
I wanna see new videos of you. I wanna see that you got better!😉So one day I can say “Release the Kraken”
I’ll have to do some new video as I have definitely progressed 👍🏻 Thanks
Very nice
Thank you 👍🏻
Thank you 👍🏻
Nice helicopter :)
Thank you mate 👍🏻
I'm sure that by now you've come to find the large isn't intimidating, but actually relaxing. They just fly so nice and don't fight you.
Yes that’s absolutely true. I’m now looking at getting the larger 550X 👍🏻
@@siholley The 550X is only a shade bigger. You should jump to at least a 700. (I have a 550X and 800 Pro) If you can fly a 500, you can fly anything.
@@yzScott Yes true, just trying to be cost conscious as well mate
@@siholley From 550 up, the price difference is not that large. There is a lot of parts commonality. The batteries really add up though when you get over 6S. And the 550X is the biggest 6S, of course. If you do get the 550X, you'll love it. It's just a little more of everything you love about the 500. I'd just save a little longer and get something more different from what I had, in your spot.
@@yzScott thank you for the info Scott, I really appreciate it. Will let you know what I end up getting.
Awesome Build. Im ready to take my 500x out for its maiden flight. I think your tail gain my be set too high bring it down a tad in multiples of 2. I noticed your tail wig wagging back and fourth real quick. but you handled that beast of a helicopter like a boss.
Thank you so much 👍🏻
@@siholley anytime I’m here if you have questions
what is the gyro set to in your transmitter , i only maiden mine today and tryn to find the happy spot as its not feeln that locked in and has some slow tail wag
Hi, my gyro is not set in my transmitter, it’s set in my Ikon 2 fbl. In my transmitter it shows “Inhibit” and THR -100%, AIL 0%, ELE 0%, RUD 0%, GER 100% and PIT -51% Hope that helps
Very Nice hovering and auto rotation landing !👍🏻
They sure handle alot better these bigger helis in windy conditions.👍🏻
Nice !
Nice Hovering Simon ! Pretty stable heli huh ?
Thank you Melvin. Yes it’s a great heli and pretty stable for its size so long as it’s not windy
@@siholley Your welcome Simon, yeah the wind is a big factor when flying our helis, I too am very weary of flying my 120 S2 in windy conditions, but all together I just love flying rc helicopters.👍🏻
@@melvinquinene4778 Yes absolutely. You need to go bigger for the wind to have less affect. Check out my video of my Trex 500 maiden flight, it was blowing a Gale that day but that heli took it fine
@@siholley Will do ! I will eventually upgrade to a bigger heli as soon as funding is available 👍🏻
Nice maiden flight, and auto rotate Landing... I am just learning, myself, I can hover n fly around a little bit but as soon as I try anything outside of that "Box "it gets ugly quickly ! need more practice lol
You’ll get there, practice, practice, practice and then practice some more
I have had it for a year and still not confident enough to transition out of safe mode. I flipped the button once at high altitude and the darn thing nearly fell out of the sky.
You have to practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. Get a simulator, that really helped me. And minimum four batteries for your 230 so you can get plenty of flight time to practice. I’ve only been flying since July 2020 and am confident enough now that I fly only in stunt 1 or stunt 2 And fly a Trex 500X too
Stick with it, you’ll get it 👍🏻
Nice 😎👍
Looks and sounds amazing Simon!! Great maiden flight👍😄
Thank you so much mate, much appreciated 👍🏻
nice auto too
Well done Simon!! I can comment on your Channel now, after seeing your maiden flight I considered getting the new 500!! But decided not to as I haven't flown the 470l yet, i then thought about getting a Dfc head for my old 500E but i can't get one anywhere!! I'll have to keep looking 👍😄🚁
I thoroughly enjoyed building the 500X and would recommend getting one mate. Intimidating to fly but I’ll get used to it. My plan was to go from my 230 to a 330 then the 500 but currently 330’s are out of stock. And I got a good deal on the 500. If you find the head you need in US I can help you get it! Thank you for your comments and kind words
@@siholley so you went from 230 to 500? Thinking of doing the same. This one is supposed to be pretty smooth and stable I hear
@@mrbushpilot yes I did. I didn’t intend to do it that way but it’s how it worked out. The 500 is a big step size wise and hence super intimidating at first but I know I’ll get used to it.
@@siholley nice one. I'll probably do it too then. No rush for me still have more room to advance on my 230 for now but it seems like it'll he way more expensive going through every/several size classes to get there if the big knes aren't especially harder to fly. Easier even some people say. Cheers
@@mrbushpilot it’s size makes it more stable. You can hear the wind in the video, it was blowing a Gale that the 230 could never have flown in but the 500 was okay
Congratulations, it was a very good flight, I wish I could flight as good as you on mode 1, i'm on my learnign curve.
Thank you. Keep practicing you’ll get there 👍🏻
Yes you should be proud Simon that was a great bit of hovering!! The problem with the 230s and the 150s is that in flight mode 1+2 they are set up for 3D which is not very good for learning to Hover and fly!! What I do is change the throttle and pitch curves in flight mode 1 so it is the same as normal mode but without stability!! The blade pitch is very high in flight mode 1 and 2 and i was having problems getting it to hover in one spot and when I lowered the throttle it was very harsh almost driving it into the ground!! It's a fab little Heli mind I love flying mine and it has been better since I did a trim flight!! Happy hovering 👍🚁🚁
Thank you so much Ian. And my flying has really come on since then. I increased my Expo to 40% which really desensitised the heli to the point that I could fly it and build up my confidence. Since then, I upgraded from the DXE to a DX6 Gen 3, have practised non stop and now have my expo set at 25% and can fly circuits, figure 8 and just did my first nose in hover for 8 mins non stop!
Wow that's great going!! Your definitely going about it the right way👍😄
@@siholley wow you doing a great job
@@modelaircraft6576 Thank you. That was a couple of months ago now, have progressed massively since then 😊
Great video but I find it excruciating watching you in that much mud without a mudguard 😂
Great job! Mad impressed!
Bikes are the best and fun
Hiya! Just wondering if you remember how expensive the excursions such as dolphin watching was? I'm going in June and have no idea how much money I'll need to bring for them :)
+Molly Patterson Hi, if memory serves it was about £50 each. You won't need too much money as there isn't much to spend it on other than trips. We did scuba diving and that worked out at about £55 each per dive. In total we spent about £600 in two weeks but we did do multiple dives
we did that today in malta we got only one day raining since the begining of march
