The line graph elucidates the comparative trends in birth rates of China and the United States over an eight-decade span from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, it is apparent that the birth rates in both countries experienced a general decline throughout the period. Notably, the United States maintained a higher birth rate compared to China for the majority of the time frame considered. Moreover, while both countries saw fluctuations, the changes in China's birth rates were more pronounced than those in the United States.
In the initial fifteen years, the United States' birth rate displayed moderate fluctuations, consistently staying above 10 births per thousand people. A precipitous drop was observed in the subsequent decade, with rates plunging to just below 5. The 1950s marked a dramatic surge, culminating in a peak of precisely 15 births per thousand, which represented the zenith for the US within the eighty years charted. Post-1950s, the trend for the US was characterized by a steady descent, bottoming out at 7 by the turn of the millennium.
Conversely, China's birth rate trajectory was marked by more extreme volatility.
