So if I had a 4L60 car and ran 4.10 gears what would I expect out of it? I’ve had a lot of people try to push me that direction.

I have a 2000 Ford ranger super cab with a ls5.3 l and a 4L60E transmission and I have 2 questions.1 what would you recommend as for posi traction and so it would run on lower rpm's and 2 the drive shaft is custom built for it modifying the rear axle would I need to change the drive shaft

ford rangers are pretty light which may effect which gears you want to choose... also first things first we need to find out what youre doing with the truck, are you drag racing, daily driving, etc.

My question is what about 2.73 gears? What's the benefits of that other then gas mileage?

Strength, numerically low ratios spread the torque over more gear teeth. I run a 3.31:1 in my 1985 Grand Wagoneer, and it lifts the left front tire. It is a brick pushing a lot of wind so I get to the end in 14 seconds! Won't break anything and can drive it everywhere. Ford 9" has a great hypoid offset so that numerically higher ratios look like a worm gear solving the tooth contact issue of many other ring gear designs.

Now 3.31:1 that's a good ratio for 60 to 70 mph on the highway. Some hills ok.

I owned a 91 Mustang 5.0 LX hatchback from 95 to 05. The car had the T-5 World Class transmission and 2.73:1 ring and pinions. It gave me as much as 30 mpg on the highway under optimal conditions but because the engine and exhaust system was modified would breath better than stock. I could put the car in 4th gear and rev the engine to 5800 rpm and the car would do a lidar verified speed of 158 Mph higher than the 140 speedo. Put it in 5th and the car slowed down to about 137 Mph.

I'm gonna have to think about this for a while lol. I'm looking to build a Superlite SLC with a Audi 5.2l v10 and some sort of straight cut gearing for high performance low gears maybe even high gears. Id like the engine to be making somewhere around 500 to 560 hp, nothing crazy just fun.

Was sup bro, I have an 2007 crown Victoria P71 4.6L V8. I think I have 3.27’s but I wanna get more power of my car or at least make it faster at the tires. The weight of the car is heavy but she can go at lower RPMS but at higher RPMS I have to hit the gas the. She revs. Idk if I should go with 3.73’s or 4.10’s. Here a lot of the lose top end power on 4:10’s? I kinda want the best of both worlds what would you suggest? I have exhaust upgrade with K&N stock & a little tune on it. Maybe 4:10’s for faster speeds or 3.73’s for best of both worlds.

I just want to understand what I have Im new on this gear ratio thing...LOL

3.73's ,4.11's are only good for 1/8 mile. After a quarter mile there is no way they will keep up with a 3.25. You will see nothing but tail lights, and won't see anything afer a 1/2 mile.
