Beautiful song and great performance ...! But the lyrics are wrong: Everybody's gotta show you their own PAIN, not thing!! These wrong lyrics are spread all over the www, but they are wrong...! I know, because I have asked Jackson, when I met him. And it does matter to me, it ruins one of the best lines ever written.

Just this morning I answered a question on Quora: "If you could have any band cover any song, what band and song would that be?" In my answer, I said: "I saw him (Jackson Browne) perform live a few years ago before COVID shut the country down. During a brief bit of quietness between songs, someone in the audience yelled out “Freebird!” and the audience laughed in response. Jackson Browne chuckled and said, “I have been hearing people yell this out for over thirty years and it is still funny to me!” I would love it if one time when an audience member yells that song out, he would look over to his bandmates, smile, and count off one of the most epic American rock anthems and blow the crowd away with an amazing covered rendition! - I had no idea he had already done this! Thank you for posting and making my day!

l love this bout Jackson Browne! That was great and he covered Free Bird very well! To me Free Bird sounds great with just an acoustic, Its such a excellent tune!
Yeah but guy the song is so incredibly easy to play. I mean there.isn't any of the fingering that we've come to expect from JB. So what he was doing was a Dumb answer to a stupid request. If you didn't see that then I think you didn't see the humor in this performance.

I might have been easy technically to play, but it looked like he was still touched by the singing the lyrics, so it had more sincerity to it than just doing it as a joke, but however people appreciated it is fine.

I saw Jackson last night in Santa Rosa, CA. At one point, with the crowd shouting out various song titles, I hollered *_FreeBird_*. I didn't expect him to play it, and I wasn't disappointed. I just thought I was *_so_* clever. Then, I saw this. Oh, well. So much for clever. ;^)
Try Whipping Post next Time. Drunks in the audience is an occupational hazard.
You have obviously never been to a Jackson Browne concert. He encourages people to call out requests, and engages in brief conversations. And, for what it's worth, _Whipping Post_ was my first choice.
Reminds me of when I saw David Lindley at the Sonoma Vintage Festival and I was calling out Warren Zevon songs. He played everything I requested and I got to meet him afterwards. Chatted about Warren and Jackson. I gave him a joint, he said, "Oh, I don't do that anymore but my roadies will have a good time." Great concert.
I saw him in 1975, and I don't recall the interaction with the audience. Then again, the drugs were plentiful.
To Robert Lane. You may be joking , but wouldn't " Whipping Post " be great ? Jackson was friends with both Gregg and Duane Allman . When Jackson was lamenting about how long it was taking him to get off the ground, Duane told him that he had to get him an electric guitar, and Jackson replied that he just didn't have the money, and with that Duane said, "Here, take this one". Can you imagine? There are lots of stories about this kind of generosity among this generation of songwriters at the time, especially concerning Jackson Browne. When they were both " starving artists", Gregg and Jackson roomed together. On another note, by the time he died, Gregg had recorded four ( 4) of Jackson's songs, including " Adam's Song" ( referring to Duane's early death ) on Gregg's last album before he died, with Jackson joining him in a duet, the only person asked to sing (record) with Gregg on that album. So your suggestion is not so out of bounds as it might seem to be, Robert Lane. I mean no harm.
