I've been interested in getting a drum like this for awhile. What is the difference between this and a Brekete drum? I love that snare sound.

really great stuff, thanks for sharing. If you orchestrate that bell pattern on a frame drum you would basically get a Maqsum. this would be cool way to give the maqsum a triplet feel by putting the 8 beats on the foot bell.

So inspiring Jerry! What appeals to me about your approach is that it seems your focus is on how to play deeper with fewer notes rather than how to play more notes faster. I'm about to hop on the path you've laid out and see what kind of experience it brings me. I miss Abubakari so much! And Dave Locke! After 3 years of studying with them he offered me to go visit him in Dagban. “Come visit and we will live in the bush!” And the huge Abu laugh! Ive mostly stayed a broke Jazz saxophonist and never had the opportunity to tour or travel in Africa. Thank you so much Jerry for continuing this knowledge at Berklee (i was there 90-95)!

Hey! This video is sick! I am wondering if each drum serves a role? For example does the Kagan serve to just keep time or does it improvise, as well? Is the Kiri the most improvisational drum? Or do they all just play around that skeleton rhythm?
