For those who are curious about the ultimate fate of the disgraced priest John Geoghan: he was arrested, charged, and found guilty and sentenced to 9-10 years in prison. In August of 2003, he was strangled and stomped to death by a fellow inmate.

I have a question for a Christian out there, if God is all loving why didn’t he help these children? Why didn’t he speak out in his own way I guess the church for the profit? If he is all seen it all knowing that he must’ve done something otherwise that with me if you knew and let it happen to

Been thinking about how a lot of the clerical officials in the Church who covered this up have been very quietly rehabbed and some lesser known ones have been politically rehabilitated. And people ask me why I love lay Catholics, but have absolute contempt for the Church hierarchy. I think about this scene a lot.

This was the smoking gun scene. The Spotlight team’s work rivals Woodward and Bernstein. Excellent reporting they did.

First, it was the Catholic Church. Then Penn State. And now the Boy Scouts, 100 years of perversion and sex files.

Terrific scene. In the whole film, you do hear direct reactions from others on that team on how horrific all of it is etc, but not really from Ruffalo( he is also, by the looks of it, a junior on the team). So for him to then break into a rant is cathartic to say the least. It’s almost as if he stopped being a journalist for once, and the film for once stopped being an investigative journalism film and just was directly, while addressing the audience and almost breaking the fourth wall in a way, saying what needed to be said. Terrific filmmaking, excellent writing and some great actors acting the hell out of it. Wonderful movie.

This is a great scene, but another one I love is the meeting scene where we find out Keaton buried the story of 19 priest in Metro. The whole movie is about good people realizing how close this terrorble crime is to them, and in that scene they see that even they were a part of keeping it secret. The line "sometimes we forget that we spent must of out time stumpel around in the dark. suddenly a light is turned on and their is a lot of blame to go around" is so good. it realy is an exampel of how noone is blameless.

You can read the whole Margaret Gallant letter online. It was heartbreaking. She was a former nun who left the convent and started a family. But still deeply religious as the whole family were. You also have to understand after the Potato Famine, many Irish immigrants lived in MA. They were not welcomed but the Catholic Church fought with and for them. So they would pass this sorry of pride generation after generations that the Church has become God himself. And that loyally and allegiance should never be questioned. The church was grooming people just like those pedos were grooming kids

I remember that they destroyed the career of the singer Sinead o'connor just so that people would not discover what the Priests really did to children. It wasn't until a team of journalists from the Boston globe revealed it.

Usually shame and guilt is what follows after acting upon wrath. Never a sin to feel angry, but it is always sinful to act upon it. Act… how ironic for a movie such as this…

You got my condolence I hope you know more of us are waking up to this situation, I hope you share this movie with his many people as you can this movie should be put up for free on TH-cam, copies of it should be given out to church goers on Sunday before they enter the building the stories too important porn the church has been given autonomy for too long they are not untouchable they are mortal Christianity existed before these churches and I will exist after

The whole cast was great, and Ruffalo got the Oscar nom I suspect for this scene. But to me, Liev Schreiber and Stanley Tucci should have been nominated ahead of Ruffalo. They were quiet and had smaller roles, which is how it goes sometimes, but man, they felt like the heart of the picture more than even the reporters or Keaton.
