I'm a UK wildlife photographer based in Stockport. Wildlife photography is a huge passion of mine. I got into wildlife photography through my passion for the natural world which has made me even more passionate about conserving nature. There is no better feeling than being up close and personal with nature, recording every moment through my lens.
I go to the Isle of Mull twice a year to photograph the Otters and Eagles along the shores of Loch Na Keal and Loch Scridain. I've been to most of mainland Scotland, the Shetland isles, Orkney, Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides to do wildlife photography and you'll gather from my website my photography is only from the British Isles.
Kit - Canon cameras 1DX MKII, 1DS MKII, lenses are the 600mm f4 MKII, 300mm f2.8 MK1, 100-400mm MKII, 24-105mm MK1, 16-35mm f2.8 MK1, 2x MKIII converter and the Sigma 150mm Macro, I use a Gitzo GT3543LS Carbon fibre tripod (2kg) x1 Wimberley Head.

My Trip to the Isle of Mull - 19th to 27th April 2024

This video is a slideshow of some of the wildlife I managed to photograph during my week on Mull last April, I had brilliant weather all week, which was a good job really, as I was camping at portnangael.co.uk/ campsite, which was in a superb location.
Early starts and late finishes were the order of the day to try and capture as much wildlife as possible. Loch Beg turned out to be a great location to photograph the White tailed eagle, as there were 5 of them at one point climbing to great heights on the thermals. I went there to photograph the Hen Harrier which frequents this area, but with no luck, but settled for the White tailed Eagle instead! Some of my Eagles shots were taken en-route to Loch Na Keal. I set up my tripod and stayed at this location for 5 hours, which paid off on this occasion.
The Otter shots were taken at Loch Scridain and Loch Na Keal. The Otters taken on Loch Scridain were taken just down the road from where I was camping, I've seen and photographed them along the shore at this location before, I they didn't disappoint this time round.

RSPB Leighton Moss - 01.06.24

Took a trip to RSPB Leighton Moss, as there were some good sightings of the Bittern, Osprey and Marsh Harriers being reported, so I thought I'd go and see if I could photograph any of the above 3 myself. Luckily they all showed quite well and this video is a short slide show of some of the shots I took, all from the Lower hide from 7.30am to 1.00pm, Enjoy.

Wonderful images!!...congratulations. I'm going to visit Mull in summer for a week. Just getting a couple of pictures as beautiful as yours would be incredible. I have no idea where to find them to begin with...I have a 500 f4. Hope the reach is enough if I lucky to spot any. Your content is amazing. Cheers!!
Hi David, thanks for your nice comments, most appreciated. I hope you have a great trip to Mull when you go, Loch Na Keal and Loch Scridain are just two of the places to find and photograph Otters and Eagles. 500mm f4 is plenty for Otters, just remember not to get too close and keep hidden, move into position when the Otter goes under, you will have anything up to 30 seconds before it surfaces again. Sorry, this Harrier is not a Hen. The male has this plumage while the hen is much darker and with a white band across her upper tail.
Thanks for your comment, but I'm afraid to say that this is a female Hen Harrier. Clearly visible is the white ring at the rear of rump. It was actually flying along side the male Hen Harrier, out of shot, which is grey with black wing tips.
