Thalamus is a legendary song in my book. An incredible use of the wall of sound... The song is heavy but yet melodic at the same time and is not repetitive nor it abuses heavy elements. Also, the bass is very well used to help the drums and the guitar to sound heavy. This album has aged fine like wine.

These are two of the best songs on Alien and two of the best songs (among many) in Dev's vast catalogue! Thalamus explodes with so much emotion it sounds like it could fill outer space!...and Zen is the theme song Satan would use to rise to earth while pure destruction ensued! This album is quite simply one of the best pieces of heavy music ever written in my opinion. It truly was an "Alien"! \m/\m/

Alien is by far my favourite album from SYL; it has remained within the insanity City and the dark aspects of the SYL while constantly bringing new aspects of their musical ability to my ears. Shit is FUCKING awesome.

All Nightmare Long is honestly the only Metallica song I like anymore. The rest of their better songs were recorded so long ago the audio quality puts me off because it just doesn't sound good on high grade speakers. I might give their Ride the Lightning and similar era albums a listen while using a headset maybe or something small, but it'll never happen while I've got a decent subwoofer for the music to kick with. Oh and Juular is a fucking piledriver. Seriously, check that Goddamn song out.

Here I am listening to this on TH-cam again, a 2 years after my original comment. I like that your response, a year ago, is the highest rated comment on this now. You make great points. I'm kinda disappointed to see my comment, my fair criticism (even being a huge SYL/Devin fan), has recieved so many dislikes. I kinda would've expected more from Devin fans, but who am I kidding? This IS TH-cam we're talking about. I like to think Devin would welcome my opinion and criticism.

Shine and Shitstorm alone make this the best album for me. Shine especially. a day doesn't go by without me listening to it a half dozen times at least
