Some information on helicoils and the Chevy 6.5 diesel just trying to help someone out that may need this information

How did you remove the 3/8 helicoils. I did the same thing and been trying everything to get right but your fix is exactly the route ive conclused would be the best way to hopefully get truck back on the road
The information I've been looking for THANKS! I was wondering why my new starter sounded strange when cranking over, and a year later why when its below 32, and on extended cranks it's starting to slip on the flywheel making grinding noise. I ordered some of those ARP'S....I just hope that it's not to late, cause it would be to much work to change the flywheel on my 2002 chevy 6.5TD Van for the shape its in. I wish I knew the bolts should have been replaced as they are 21 yrs old with 220,000 miles. PS Like the other guy from Mexico commented, you are the only YT'er (I found) mentioning this problem....Maybe you should somehow make a better Title for more views....thanks again.

Broke the starter bracket bolt off, in the block! Can't grab it with vise grip pliers.... there was enough protruding from the block to hang the bracket on the broken bolt, but just barley.... put the bracket on the broken nub, and tack welded the bracket to the broken bolt... hope this holds!! Any other suggestions???!
I would think that the tack weld will break almost immediately I would try welding a washer to the broken bolt then a nut to the washer the best thing will be to get it bolted back down
@@DHWhatisittoya I'm willing to try anything....I bought a new starter, the old one was replaced at some point, and the bracket was there, but not used..... I'm thinking that when it was replaced, the block bracket bolt would not come loose and they didn't use it again.... when I tried to loosen it, it immediately broke..
And, I should say, I'm no good at welding...I got my welder buddy to do the tack weld for me!
Hey man. Im from Mexico. Just bought my 6.5 diesel and my starter was grinding. I changed my flywheel, starter and the problem didn’t go away. You’re the first and only video I’ve found that actually shows the real problem. Thank you man. 🙏

Thanks I think I know where the grinding buzzing sound is still coming from now!! just replaced starter put in a shim but still periodically sounds fd up grinding sound...
Ish Gilbertson you do not want to shim the 6.5 starter do you have the bracket at the back of the starter to the engine block?
@@DHWhatisittoya thanks yeah I just found the bracket and new starter bolts on @leroydiesel.com im hoping this is the problem and the bracket and new bolts solve the issue I just found out that you could actually have the starter crack right off the block and that would be bad lol thanks again!!!
