Tim and Cliff: Billie's Bounce
My old college friend Tim visited for a few days and we recorded ourselves jamming to a few standards. This is Billie's Bounce.

Simple F blues
มุมมอง 152วันที่ผ่านมา
Playing an F blues scale over an F jazz blues so I can focus on the phrasing rather than worry about the changes.
More Of Me
มุมมอง 3221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Another go at All Of Me - lifting even more Parker lines for the first chorus, and coming up with some hopefully better lines for the second at a slightly more sedate tempo.
Billies Bounce 160
มุมมอง 87หลายเดือนก่อน
Practicing improvising over this while trying to keep track in the form without relying on iRealPro. Mostly successful :). I've pinched a couple of Bir'd's licks here from Now's The Time.
All Of Me WIP

Practicing improvising over this (with some precomposed lines, to be fair) while try to keep track in the form without relying on iRealPro. Mostly successful :).
All Of Me (again)
มุมมอง 1502 หลายเดือนก่อน
Back to working on All Of Me. The first chorus is an attempt at playing what Bird played with Lennie Tristano, the second is my own free improvisation.
Cliffie's Bounce
มุมมอง 1872 หลายเดือนก่อน
Another go around at Billie's Bounce, a jazz blues in F. This time I'm using a backing track from Jens Larsen at 132bpm, trying to incorporate some rhythmic displacement, motivic development, and a little bit of pentatonic pickup before the first bar.
Celebimbor's Kitchen Episode One
มุมมอง 1022 หลายเดือนก่อน
Of Celebrimbor and the forging of the pizza of pepperoni, in which the Elven smith and cook demonstrates the Eregion method of pizza making.
Nice playing.
Thanks!
Bringing Jazz to the masses! Sounds great Cliff!
Thanks Martin!
Nice how do you get your sound,
Thanks! Gauge 10 TI flat wounds, going into an AxeFX II with a Princeton amp simulation, tiny bit of compression, delay and reverb.
Nice playing!
Thank you!
Wow!! Very good! Sounds really beautiful to the ears!
Thank you!
Parabéns!!!!!! congratulations!!! Very good!!!!!! Clifford from Brazil
Many thanks! From one Clifford to another!
Sounds amazing! Great phrasing
Thanks!
Sounds great
Thanks Christian!
This was fun!!
Aw, thanks Kelly! Glad you enjoyed it!
sounds great! what guitar is that? Looks lovely
Thanks so much! It's a Jaen Berliner - I've barely played anything else since I got it back in 2020. www.guitarrasjaen.com
Onion ring to rule them all
Onion ring to fry them....
Nice work, sounds great!
Thanks Scott!
Best one yet, definitely improving every week cuz!
Thanks Cuz!
Loved this!!
Thanks sweetie!
Groovey! Didn't bother me much but the audio recording got strangely over-driven in a coule of places (like at 0:44) Strangely in I just didn't recognise that kind of fuzz. Some kind of digital "I ran out of bits so I'm going to give you random" maybe 🙂 Was enjoyable regardless, thanks!
Thanks James! Yeah, you're exactly right - it's digital clipping. I use a digital amp modeller and feed both the guitar and the Mac audio into it (the latter being just a pass-thru) then pass it all back to the Mac to record. It's the easiest way I've found to record both guitar and computer audio. I realised I had the noise problem last night and went to open the Mac-based editor to adjust the levels, then realised I didn't have it installed on my new Mac. I realise now the solution might be as simple as turning down the Mac volume :).
@@CliffieVanR you’d think we’d have enough cycles to spare these days to not just overflow? Or is that deliberate to not taint the signal with compression or the like?
@@jamesburgess9101 Yeah, I'd guess it probably is. The unit is marketed as being super-high-end audio quality. I'm probably just slamming the ADC at the front end.
Favorite one yet! Really catchy!
Thanks darling!
hell yeah
Thanks!
Sexy Cliff.
That's what all the bots say
Good shit MrBig Fart approves ❤❤
Hey Cliff, I remember this and those early years at Romik. I wrote Multisound Synthesizer, Space Fortress and Space Escort for them. I met you at a dinner they did for us young programmers, do you remember going?! Ah those long gone days of after school programming, great fun!
Hi Darren - I *do* remember. How cool!
Nice!
Thanks Andy!
Lovely 👏
Thanks Vinny!
Very nice. Not your usual jazz guitar...
Thank you! Ha ha - yeah, thought I'd change it up a bit :)
Cliff, you Sound terrific!
Thanks Jojo!
Awesome Cuz!!!!!!
Thanks cuz!
Brilliant. Not out of place in a smokey bar.
Thanks Andy!
Damn Cliffy, you make it sound like the dog ate mine.
Ha ha! Thanks Wesley. Truth be told, the dog ate my first few takes too!
@@CliffieVanR Yup, every once in a while we come up with a passing grade.
@@wesleyc.4937 Indeed!
Very nice. I don't normally comment but since you asked, could I suggest some staccato notes in the meoldy for variety. Think like a singer. Only been into jazz chord melody myself for 2 years but have 29 years teaching experience. Well done though
Hi Ken! Many thanks. I really appreciate the advice, and will definitely take it on board.
This sounds great, super chill :)
Many thanks!
Well done!
Thanks Christian!
Nice! Dutch Composer M.Regtien created a version of "Au Privave" entirely based on white noise! th-cam.com/video/-wpIBHSoIJI/w-d-xo.html
Good job !!!
Thanks!
Nice fluency. What progression is it?
Thanks Tim! It's Coltrane's Moment's Notice.
@@CliffieVanR I wondered (based on the name wordplay), but thought that might be too tricky. I must look at it again. I think I remember it might be 'tune up' with 'coltrane changes' substituted.
@@timjclark It I*is* tricky! :). There are a lot of bars of ii-Vs, and I'm using an idea of Christian's to think only in terms of the Vs.
Nice ! Sounds good ! :)
Thanks!
@@CliffieVanR You're welcome
That sounds great🙂 Love the tone of that guitar!
Thanks Martin!
Yep - this is a wonderful guitar.
I legit really like the tone haha
Ha ha! Thanks. It's the same set up as I use for the archtop - I didn't even adjust the EQ.
@@CliffieVanR put flatwounds on it
@@JazzGuitarScrapbook Oh, I already have flat-wounds on my other Jackson: th-cam.com/video/PlaJ-najYLM/w-d-xo.html I don't particularly care for the tone, to be honest.
@@CliffieVanR the whole point of flatwounds is that they sound terrible
@@CliffieVanR actually I think the tone on that video is pretty sweet!
That is the most Jackson Jackson ever to Jackson. Do you fancy playing some contemporary classical music?
Lol! I knew you'd get it! There's actually an extra Jackson on the headstock just out of shot.
Came from the JL YT group. Nice playing 😎
Thanks!
Nice job man! Is that a star fox t shirt?
Thank you! It is - I was one of the developers for Starfox Adventures.
Very nice!
That's nice, well done
Thanks Andrea! I’m hoping this week’s version will be a little more relaxed and smoother.
Nice work Cliff - it's nice to see the progress you are making!
Thanks Jeannie! I really appreciate your advice and encouragement.
Great Sound is a Jaen Guitar? All the best!
Thanks! Yes, it's a Jaen - it plays beautifully as well. All the best to you too!
This is an incredible improvement from when you first started posting in the jazz fb page :-). Well done!
Thank you so much! That's really good of you to say. You've made my day :)
Coming along nicely.
Thank you!
nice mellow jazz tone, fits your playing style; well done
Thanks very much!
