Record No 52 Vice Refresh | Quick Release
มุมมอง 4.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I restored a 1960s record number 52E quick release woodworking carpenters vise. It was in great condition anyway it just had a bit of surface rust and the grease in the turn screw had dried up. I’ve called it a refresh because it was quite a quick job, didn’t need repainting and I didn’t have the time to dismantle and completely remove the rust so I just used drill attachments and the Dremel to...
Silver Shilling Lace Locks! | Bobby White Inspired
มุมมอง 2562 ปีที่แล้ว
Bobby White the master jeweller made some lace locks for his Nike’s. This inspired me to give it a go. The old British Shilling was made from 925 Sterling Silver, this is the equivalent to jewellery Silver you see in modern times. I cut the blank from the centre of the coin and then used a piercing saw to create the space for the laces. Super simple and super effective, I laced them onto my pla...

Nice ! For the Latheless Old school grandpa tech.
Great video. Were the edges sharp? Did you smooth it out using the sander? It's too fast to be sure. I just bought a house and want to remove the white oil-based paint from the window sills and leave it looking more natural looking.
Thank you. No the edges weren’t sharp, the sander was to get a smooth surface before finishing with hard wax oil. If you follow us on Instagram you will see more house renovation content. Thanks for watching. Brook_House_1930
Many thanks for your tutorial; excellent 👍🏼 I want to know the maximum weight load that this wooden weight tree can hold without cracking?
I couldn’t say for sure, have only used for lighter weight plates. If you want to use for heavier I would use a metal bar.
can you talk
👍 Yes ☺️
Are you just pulling or twisting and pulling?
Just pull
@@JKLProjects thanks it took a while but I got it I just didn’t wanna pull and brake it
Could've been better.
Agreed 😂 this was early on, the transformation has progressed more now.
Exellent work.Thanks for saving a beautifull toolbox.😅
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
It’s spelled sill.
so sad that old coins are destroyed to make this. Old coins and the history of the country are important. Yes it beautiful but the coin is no more. If everyone followed this example old coins would be no more and tangible history lost forever
Thanks for watching and your comment. These coins are not rare and live on as a new item. I’m sure many others are lost to more trivial reasons such as being thrown away or melted down.
nice work
Thanks!
Excellent 👍👍
Thank you 👍
💯🥳👍🏻🍻

Can you tell me what lock number yours is? As mine is a "7" (number on top of key hole) the key is lost and I'm trying to get a new one made so would be good to have a template. Many thanks Pauline
Price of wood now a days not worth buy one made already
😂 Good point. This was scrap wood thankfully, saved from landfill.
Is this a regular coping saw? Or a specialist one?
Hi there, it’s called a jewellery saw or piercing saw. Same concept as a coping saw but uses smaller blades about the thickness of a human hair. 👍
I can't believe I wasted so much time watching you polish aluminum. I was expecting a mod to extend or tighten up the blade.
Yup, no clickbait 😜 the finished article was right there all along.
It's a great tutorial. However, a word of caution - the webbing may be rated to 125kg, but that thickness of PVC tubing will likely start to crack or even snap at around 75-80kg due to the extreme pressures put on either of the ends... Another point would be to round the inner and outer edges of both ends of the tube, otherwise the sharp edges of the tube will eventually start cutting away at the webbing. 🙂
Good advice! Thanks for your comment.
that small wrench you used looks fantastic!! please tell me what kind of wrench it is or where I may find one. i need it! also, thank you for the tutorial. i prefer to make my own tools whenever possible but don't always know how to go about it. this is very helpful!
You’re welcome. The wrench is just a vintage adjustable wrench. Looking online some seem to call it a girder wrench. Hand tool rescue makes one. Hope that helps.
Well, let’s just say you and I take a different approach.
How so?
That’s destruction of the governments property so it’s illegal so yeah don’t do this
This is a pre decimal coin so it’s okay 👍
I really don't know why you would take it apart. The history is fantastic.
The condition wasn’t good, I have restored it to its former glory and now it will survive for many more years
Nice! Will do it tomorrow.
How did it go?
your bench peg looks new first project?
I think it was back then! 😂 well spotted
the gold does look good on the characters ,makes a change from boring white most people use
Thanks ☺️ can’t go wrong with black and gold
i LOVED 2020, i sold my concept 2 for 2k and by 2022 i had the money to buy 2 of them LUL

Temporary repair,...Granite is a LIFETIME APPLICATION...
Hi, thanks for the comment. This window cil is 100 years old already and now in as new condition 😉 hopefully another 100 to come.
Very nice. What reconditioning wheel are you using?
It’s a fibre wheel. Scout crafter channel has some videos on them
Brilliant. Very nice restoration. Everything turned out great. The key making was awesome.
Thank you very much! Lovely comment
That turned out nice. Have been following you on IG and didn't realize I wasn't following you here. I fixed that.
Thanks again ☺️
The before looks exactly like my rusted plates, curl bar, and tricep bar in my backyard.
Get them restored! ☺️
Real nice job looks real! Now granddad needs to get out to the shop and make my grandson one! Thanks for sharing!
I have just been rebuilding a few bits on my Father's one of these. He was a tool maker for life. A few things to note. I didn't have a key so I made up a few to test and modify with thin plastic that was easy to cut with a boxcutter. Took a few attempts and trimming to push the tumblers just far enough. My profile ended up being nowhere near as simple as the one here. I would suggest that even though it appears to work its probably wrong (maybe you got lucky the number "12" lock was the simple one mine has a "6" lock) , the tip of the key is quite small as well as it goes right through the back of the lock. Basically only 2 tumblers so was not hard to see what was going on with the lock removed. That plate round the lock (13 minutes in) on the front actually has a rectangular cut-out between the mounting screws. This allow a bit of paper or card trapped behind it so you can write your name on it. Nice picture of a genuine key here:- www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-neslein-drawer-engineers-1819612816 I'm taking my plastic template to a locksmith to get 2 proper keys cut for it.
Carlos I have a "7" lock any ideas what the key would look like please?
I like the idea of using the nicely done sculpting from the mint’s sculptures to fancy up your ring. The shaping you did with the file and stuff to incorporate the coin was great. The only problem I seen was the Silver didn’t match up. The ring is probably .925 sterling silver and god only knows what the silver content of the shilling was. Probably .999 or even 90% but it could be much lower. You could’ve concealed it by framing your insert with the same silver content as your ring. Giving it a 3d appearance
You totally ruined this video with the adding in of irritating, annoying and distracting crappy-ass background "music", making it unwatchable. Just thought you'd like to know.
Sure, it looks real purty, but the best 199's are cast iron. Also, if you plan to pocket this thing, you better get a blade guard.
I bet those bars had 0 knurling left after this. Look nice tho. 👍
Thanks for the comment. I was worried about this too but was okay thankfully!
how did you make that starter hole
Hi there, the starter hole is made using a micro drill bit. They are standard drill bits but just very small, some under 1mm diameter. Sometimes you need a drill bit holder adapter as they might fall out of a standard chuck.
Didn't like how you didn't remove all of the rust but nice idea of using the marker. I was wondering how I was going to do the lettering.
Hi thanks for the comment. Only needed to remove the surface rust for these as they are going to get chucked around a bit. For other projects the rust removal is more important. Glad you liked the gold lettering. So much easier than paint and easy to touch up too. Surprisingly long lasting.
Bravo Mr.!!!
Thank you! Please subscribe for more
Yeah you did a great job but that is considered that mirrors are still rusty done delete mine just said never mind here’s a story I actually have this old weight and I have no clue where are stored so you really help me when I have no clue no to fix
Should have polished the screw
Good idea, I did this on my recent upload, the Hilmor pipe vice. Chucked them into the drill and sanded / polished. Leaves a fantastic uniform polish on the screw, really effective.
I think the sharpie gold at the end was such a good idea.
Many thanks for the kind comment! Some people use contrasting paint but the Sharpie is so quick and effective and can be touched up easily if it comes off! Please subscribe for more ☺️
I Appreciate your work!
Thank you! I appreciate your comment ☺️
that's great, for another finish for your copper pieces, you can electroplate zinc onto the surface and then heat up the part (on a cooker hot plate will do) and the finished piece will magically turn to brass, with a good polish looks great :-)
Oh wow that sounds interesting. Is it easy to do with a DIY set up?
@@JKLProjects Hi, yes very easy, there are plenty of videos on youtube on how to electroplate zinc onto copper, I tried with a few old coins before doing anything good :-)
You make some very nice items but you assume too much. I wish you would speak and explain what you are doing and what things you a using. for example you used some type of long handled clamp to hole the a coin, but I have no idea what this clamp looks like, what it is called or where I can buy it. Also you added something to the water to cool the cut image down but you didn't say what that ingredient was. I wish you well but could you consider been been more descriptive in your uploads please?
Hi and thanks for the comment. I appreciate the feedback and I suppose this channel is meant to be more for entertainment rather than a how to channel. I’m happy to answer any questions though. The clamp is something I made myself out of a large garden gate hinge. I filmed the make video but haven’t uploaded yet. The chemical in the water is called Liver of Sulphate solution. It causes the weathering and darkening of the coin to bring out the details of the design. If you have any other questions please ask away. 👍
Do you have mosquito problem after using the water feature?
Hi, no not a problem with mosquitos, it’s not a very big body of water and the filter in the pump keeps the water clean. We are in the UK though so not much problem with mosquitos anyway. 👍
This is why I paint my plates and bar from the very beginning after buying them. I coat them with an anti-corrosive paint.
Where can we even find old gym equipment at
Best to check on second hand sites like eBay, gumtree, Shpock or carboot sales. They cost around £2 per KG, sometimes less.
