Coding Categorical Demographic Questions in Qualtrics
มุมมอง 721 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Categorical demographic questions do not have meaningful numbers, but they will still be assigned a "score" in Qualtrics that will be visible when you download your data. The number doesn't really matter but you want it to be clean and easy to understand. This video shows you how to recode the demographic questions for ease of analysis.

I am a University student studying in Berlin, and I really thank you for this video dear mam! You helped me a lot, I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thanx Mother of Turtles. for everyone else. jump straight to 3:28
Thank you!!!!!!
page numbers yo...how you do that.
have my irms test tmr wish me luck
did you pass?😬
@@jaelyngreen3295 yes i did thank you for the help
thank you for your video! Could you also explain how I could combine 2 data sets into one column? Thank you
It sounds like you are combining two datasets with the same variable(s) ? If so, you can use merge to add cases. There is also a merhe to add variables. I hope that helps!
I have a matrix table with multiple questions. Some items are reversed but I am only able to reverse the scale for the whole matrix table. Do you know any other solution?
Matrix questions in Qualtrics should let you reverse score them individually in the scoring function under survey options.
@@motherofturtles3297 Where? Can you please guide me as well?
In the scoring section for the multiple question matrix table, it says question type is not supported :/
Hi ! I have two conditions: one is for teachers who have training experiences, and the second is for teachers who do not have training experience in certain topics. Each group see different questions. After the demographic questions and two scales, they assigned the conditions according to their answers. I numbered the questions with same number I mean if the last item of scale is 39 each conditions first questions starts with 40. When I check results in QualtricsI, I see the comparison of two groups with the same titles, and I do not understand which one belongs to which group. Maybe this is a stupid question but I need help :) Thank you so much in advance for any help ..
im having the same issue, did you figure it out?
Can i score my survey items after collecting data? Thank you!
Yes absolutely. Just make sure to publish any changes before downloading the data.
hello my highest scoring is 4 and the result was -1 is it still okay the -1 ?
No. It sounds like your numbering is 0 to 4. If that’s the case (less common than scales starting at 1) you should just use your highest number and subtract your score from 4, so 4 reverse scored would be 0. If your scale is 1 to 4, you would use top score + 1 so it would be 5-4 and that would make your new value 1. Hope that helps!
@@motherofturtles3297 so lets say number is 3, number 3 does not change right? its still 3 is to 3 ?
That depends on your scale. 3 would remain 3 if your scale is 1 to 5. You should watch my video on conceptual reverse scoring.
Hi..that would be so handy but could you please explain about the normal scoring as well..recently heard it from a friend to not use find and replace option.
Hi, I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Are you asking how to code text responses into numbers? If so, in Sheets you should create a new column and then use an IF statement to automate the coding process. Hope that helps!
@@motherofturtles3297 Yeah, you interpreted it right. Thanks a ton and even more for reverse scoring!!
@@kathajain9397 Excellent, and that is a great idea for another video :)
@@motherofturtles3297 Absolutely :))
THANK YOU!
Hello ma'am! Is it possible that the within groups is much higher than the between groups? Is it valid? Can we still continue to perform ANOVA?
Hi, I am not positive I understand your question, but I think this is what you are looking for: The main idea behind one-way ANOVA is to compare the variance (or spread) between the different groups to the variance within each group. We want to see if the variability between the group means is significantly greater than the variability within the groups. So for your question, "Is it possible that the within groups is much higher than the between groups?": Yes, this is possible. If the variability within the groups is much larger than the variability between the group means, then this suggests that the group means are not significantly different from each other. In other words, the independent variable (the factor being tested) is not having a significant effect on the dependent variable. "Is it valid?": Yes, it is still valid to perform the one-way ANOVA in this case. Even if the within-group variance is higher than the between-group variance, the ANOVA test can still be used to determine if the group means are significantly different. "Can we still continue to perform ANOVA?": Absolutely. You should still proceed with the one-way ANOVA analysis. The ANOVA test will compare the between-group variance and the within-group variance, and provide a p-value that indicates whether the group means are significantly different or not, regardless of the relative magnitudes of the variances. Hope that helps!
@@motherofturtles3297 Hello, ma'am! May I ask why there are instances where the within-groups sum of squares is larger than the between-groups sum of squares? In articles that I have read, it is stated that this situation implies that the results have no significant difference. However, I have also come across examples in articles, existing studies, and even books where the results show a significant difference (with the within-groups sum of squares being larger than the between-groups sum of squares). What is the reason for this, ma'am? Is there any study/reference that will support it?
Thanks a lot! And what about indentation of the body text? Should this be done as well, like in the paper itself?
Thank you so much for your series on Qualtrics. It really helps a lot!
Thank you for this video! Have a quiz about these concepts today 🍀

hello there, thank you for your video. I am struggling with one thing that I cannot find any tutorial about hopefully Mother of turtles can help me 🙏 How can I import a Jamovi file into Excel without it coming all funny? because even though jamovi has the clear option export as soon as you put it in Excel it loses the original format. Much appreciated your help with this if you know. it will save me hours of typing data! thank you
Thank you!!
thank you very much
So helpful…thank you!
Hi. Are these different kinds of variables applicable to any research, or are they pertinent to a specific field, like economy or politics?
The examples I use are for my psychology courses but independent and dependent variables are present in any field.
Thank you so much❤️❤️
How can you store as a variable to which group they were assigned?
When you download from Qualtrics, you can select storing the randomization from the more options.
Thank you so much! This was very helpful.
Hello! I am trying to find a way to contact you after I have discovered your channel. Do not worry, I am just a student with some dilemmas and questions about writing a research paper. Would you please drop an email address or a form of contact? Thank you in advance, it would be very much appreciated!
Hi Johnny, I don't give out my contact info except to students at my institution but I am happy to direct you to some resources. Do you have some specific questions I can answer? I wish you luck!
Very good channel! Thank you.

Hi! Is there any way one can add their own media? or would I have to upload it to youtube first
Late reply, but yes. You can add media a variety of ways and Qualtrics provides a guide for that here: www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/editing-questions/rich-content-editor/insert-media/
How would you then analyze the manipulation check to determine if your manipulation worked out well?
Great video. I have two groups: companies that are financially distressed and companies that are not financially distressed. I wanted to compare the means between the two. I've been looking for a clear explanation for a layman and this hit the mark.
