Alas not but for the use of post races ie: Marathon 10 k etc I am sure it would be a good choice for the top half your body but for Dartmoor survival its definitely no for me.

Indeed I agree and hopefully anyone venturing to harsher environments would take gear suitable.

I think the problem for me was that the foil was simply to small and I guess I was expecting to be able to wrap my whole body around. I guess I may take one with me but use it to wrap around under my outer wind cheater layer. Thank you for your comments. John

I am sure you are most correct and I agree as I also said about condensation. I think its an option for short term emergency and compact. Ideally I think you would need to face away from the wind and have a small gap to breath indeed as you stated. I also I agree about the condensation factor over extended period but I suppose it would be better than being totally exposed to the cold wet? As for me my periods on Dartmoor are not for a great length of time and I guess if I were heading to the mountains I would invest in a "true Bivvy" with a good hydro static head. The way you approach this indeed how I started. i am self taught really and from my guitar theory book I learned how to form chords on the keyboard. Its such a good way to add colour to your music when you are the only one playing. Take care John

Yes Indeed you are 100% correct and that is my normal procedure. I just wanted to test this out in scenario where there was no shelter to see how it stood up.

Yes that is very sad and even harder for single people. A person once felt sad that they had no shoes then he passed a man who had no legs! It is important to appreciate and be grateful for what we do have.

Thank you for the comments. Yes I know how hard Christmas can be indeed even depressing and unmotivating to celebrate with families etc. The Lord helped to change that attitude over time.

Yep it is indeed a glorified bag

ha ha almost but not literally

Its not that bad, I have used it for 4 years now and really helped me in those very wet or very ice cold and snow times on Dartmoor. Maybe no good for mountains but okay for this environment.

Hi thank you for the good advise and tips. I agree with you about the benefits of the bivvi set up. I use the bag type shelter only because my adventures on Dartmoor and no more than a 3-4 hours on a Saturday morning. I have considered Bivv's but its more weight i think and also I like to sit upright and eat my food etc . I tend to use the shelter as a pit stop for food and shelter from cold winter winds and rain. Ps I have purchased a Bivvy bag and reviewed it and am impressed! It is now part of my Dartmoor kit. I will test it in the cold next.

@@ChristianSingles I think you've made the right choice. For day walks, the extra weight is insignificant and the increased safety and functionality is substantial. I used to live on Dartmoor and it was always in my pack. Now I'm in the Lakes and it's still a permanent fixture unless I'm on a multi-day with a tarp.

yes totally true 100% agree and I would never put the shelter up in direct wind line normally. The idea of the video was to see how it fared with such conditions which in most cases would never happen.

Yes indeed and the hill adds another 20 mph of wind speed due to the very steep climb NW for the wind and of course a nice bit of compression to get it over the hill

Indeed - if we have issues (which we all do have to varying degrees) - we should go back to our Maker for Healing, the same way if your PC was broken you would take it back to the manufacturer for repair, we need to go back to the One who made us. Acts 16: 30 - 31..............if you take this step, then your future is bright and safe.....believe and you will receive........doubt and you will go without.

Yrs I am sure it could but I would find it too much of a faff so I would use my spare waterproofs to sit on and sometimes light my mini stove for instant heat .. usually when its really chilly windy and -2c or below,

Hi there, Yes I am sure there is rook for improvement here. Most of the time I am on my own and not so easy to film those things with wind or rain or snow dust etc I suppose its a basic review without all the technical photography etc to make it really slick. All I can say is that the shelter has helped me and does improve the ambient heat and give resbite from the elements. I have tested it at 70 mph gusts -4.0c and it really does the job. @@ChristianSingles Thanks v much for your reply John. But at risk of sounding annoying - and genuinely interested, how long have you tested it for? I mean, if one were to lie down in it, is there any insulation from the ground built in? Would falling asleep possibly sound the death knell for the user from body heat egress into the ground? It's hard to see if there is any insulation built in but probably not, judging by the size of the package? It appears you are holding it (the survival 'bivvy') in shape with your feet - imagine they are are freezing and need to be dried/massaged - does the thing stay reasonably in place or does chaos ensue if one's feet are not holding it up? Does water soak into one's clothing if the membrane of the shelter is against one's shape? Does the shelter breath, at least when not soaked outside, or build up condensation?

Hi again, There is no protection from the ground so I sit on my spare rain coat. i have this one for 3-4 years now and tested it in wet windy snowy bitter cold conditions. I haven't spent long enough inside to verify the condensation factor but I am quite sure you would finally become damp but not soaked as you would outside in the full elements. I suggest that this bag is one for short term protection but of course you could survive longer albeit not to comfortable. I would carry other back up kits like poncho foil heat retaining and min bivvi bags or sleeping bags. If you are looking for real ground protection I suppose a full on survival bivvi would be the answer. I am only out for 3 or 4 hours Saturday dawn to sunrise etc and it is sufficient for that. You press the reset button if the devise completely locks up. But you should never use the reset button just to turn it off as it can lesson the life on the battery.
