I think it's vital to the story to discuss that Andree's actions bordered from criminal negligence to straight up self-delusioned sabotage. Idk why people regard his attempt as bold or heroic. IMO it was complete narcissistic delusion. His first attempt with Nils Ekholm was botched altogether because the winds were blowing "the wrong way" (one necessity of Andre's foolish plan was that the wind would just happen to constantly blow in the direction he needed to go the entire 30 days) and it was revealed that, during those days they waited for better weather, Andre secretly refilled the balloon with hydrogen to hide the fact that it was leaking so much. I don't know what would possess a man to trick other people to join him on a faulty balloon flight, relying on sheer hubris that once they were in the air, suddenly he would defy physics and everything would just go his way. I can only imagine the spoiled, selfish upbringing of a man who would risk the lives of others in believing that simply because of his desire for things to go a certain way, nature, physics, and the world would just contort its own truths to make his dreams come true lol.
