Mercruiser Outdrive Alpha One Easy Pressure Test!
Do you work on boats? I have a boat that needs some loving.
Is that an integrated fuel tank ?
Amigo siguiéndote hago el proceso pero saco aire y nunca pita porque
I used a different process this year. I drained water from all blue plugs blew a little compressed air through four hoses. Poured pink in each hose till started to run out then reinstalled blue plugs. Setup a sump pump hooked to muffs in a large container filled with pink. Turned sump pump on and ran motor on pink for about five minutes and sprayed fogging oil into carb unit motor stalled out. Does anyone think that this process has any flaws in it. I personally think it’s a viable option since motor was completely drained and ran on pink to thoroughly fill motor. I don’t believe Tstat opened during this but shouldn’t have been any water since motor was drained completely.
Let me know what you find out. I ran antifreeze with gravity fed container. Once engin3 warmed up I switch the valve to and the antifreeze container sitting in my swim deck. How ever. I opened the drained to see if it was full. Surprise. Left side block and manifold were not full of antifreeze only water. Right side plugs did drain antifreeze. So now that I have all 5 plugs open. Drained all. I plan on filling back up with marine west antifreeze thru the hoses like this video. But leaving the antifreeze inside. With plugs closed.
probably the dog
Guy needs to ask Steve Morris if he'll build him another "Big Black Hemi".
That’s one of the best sounds in the world
Thanks buddy, the "rag trick" was the ticket for me to isolate the problem carburetor. 👍
SO its basically working. I'm doing that test right now. If it can barley expand a cheap plastic bottle, nothing would happen in metal aluminum, copper, steel
Much appreciation for the video. I've been fighting this issue now for two years. Boat always starts right up when it's cold but absolutely will not idle once the motor is hot. I hate having to rev the motor to start it out on the water and then throwing it in to gear. I know that has to be hard on the drivetrain. I'm gonna pull this module out this weekend and clean mine out as well and see if that takes care of it. Thank you!
This also worked on my 2009 express van
Thank you for showing this video, the cutaway is awesome, so much easier to understand, hope there is more to come,
Hey there. nice video thanks for sharing. I have the same motor. what does it mean if the sucking/hissing noise doesn't go away? My boat starts fine. If I'm out on the water after running for a while and shut it off it doesn't turn back on first try though. usually second try. Usually I open the throttle 1/4 as well. Any ideas? OH also wanted to add to this. I can smell gas at cold start and get a little bit of smoke after idling and moving really slow. can't tell if its smoke or steam i think smoke. looks white.
I have a 2007 4.3 TKS and same issue with the hard starts when it's warm. Already had it in and they said the TKS module was fine, has power, opens/closes.
very cool thanks
Mark, I have the same problem in that my switch plunger does not come out all the way to make electrical contact within the switch. I'm trying contact cleaner spray to loosen the "gunk" that may be holding back the switch plunger movement. Your video was an inspiration! Wish me luck. Also, your test light, coil to ground was a good tip to confirm electrical connection. Thanks !
Yeah I've tried that several times just like you're doing and the horn will not honk it will not cycle to the next tire and I have the same type of tires you have mine call for 80 so basically I have the same setup as you mine will not cycle from the left front tire to the next tire
Excellent video with the cut-away outdrive. Many thanks for making this video it was helpful to understand how it works.
Good stuff I have a 98 force 40 2 stroke. Spits fuel out of the over flow a wot. Can't figure it out if you have any ideas
Thanks for providing the cutaway model and such a clear explanation on the inner workings of a Cobra outdrive.
Bless him. What a life well-lived, Snickers.
Excelente bro
What’s the part number on that enrichment valve I ordered one but wrong part
Thank you! This video really helped me!
What if I want to pump the water into a tank, say 6 feet above your bucket, will this pump do that and how long will it take? Thanks.
Hi Mark. Great video on the cut-out switch. Do you have a video on the adjustment of the shift cable? Or know of a good one for me to watch? Happy boating.
I'm installing the upgraded shift plate and it comes with two black wires and no wiring diagram or even a simple explanation which wire is pos or neg. The old wires are a tan with a green stripe and a solid black. So there's no way to tell how to connect the new two black wires to the old tan/green and black. I was hoping you would cover that. It would've been very helpful if you had.
I have a 2005 Tahoe Q4 with a 4.3 seems to have this problem
What did you use to clean the module
You lost a subscribe and the election
😁😅😅😅🤗be gone demon
I agree, why be political for a boat video?? I stopped watching at the Brandon flag… the guy in the video needs to get some balls and just say what he means and not hide behind a “inside joke” that’s not funny and not secret.
Trump 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Pressure is pressure. sucking or blowing will still indicate a leak.
Thanks
Very interesting, thanks
Thanks for posting. It fixed my problem! Not a cheap part, though!
This was an awesome video. Very clear. I have a OMC/VPSX with the cone shifter now, but I used to own an A1G2 with that dog clutch. Nice to see how all of that works, thanks to you. 👍
Super valuable video, thank you! I had the same issue and my mechanic just removed the switch..is that bad or can the engine live also without it? Also, I had an issue with the gears and neutral and the mechanic removed today the shift assist...since then the gears are working fine and smoothly, on land. Tomorrow we will test it on water. The engine is a 4.3LX V6 alpha one, carburetor engine. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you in advance.
The switch is needed to get the boat out of gear and into neutral. Without it it will likely get stuck in gear and usually not at a convenient time...
Did u rebuild the carburetors or did u just clean them?
Just a thorough cleaning and new gaskets
Nice cutting that open. I have a 77 Mercruiser R behind a 302 that ran low on oil. Smoked the very top bearing on the drive shaft so far that I can see. I’ll probably never take it apart like you said due to the cost of the tools.
Very cool demonstration, sorry your drive had to croak to show us.
I’m Please I 😅o o j
excellent video, thanks
Yep. Voting for Brandon!
Great explanation. About to change that on my 5.0
Thank for your instructional. It's really helpful!
Good video here. As for myself the first things I usually check is the fuel line, bulb, and check valve, then straight to the fuel pump(s)...an outboard that runs fine up to mid rpm then bogs is almost always being starved of fuel, and fuel pumps are so simple to inspect, and what I often find isnt a tear or hole but just a stretched out diaphragm that cant keep up at speed, that and the godawful tiny filters Mercury used to put pre-carb in the fuel lines that most people have no clue even exist.
Hi Mark, how would you change replace the tube line that goes to the speedometer?
If the hose moves freely, splice the new hose to the old hose and ease it through. It might be clamped to the boat somewhere, make sure it's free.
You run the drill clockwise ?
CAN NOT FIX HIS OWN PROBLEMS 😇
He may need to sell the boat to pay his legal bills. Get ready for a call.
you convinced me Mark!
Are you really all so gullible....It's AI.
I KNOW 😂 but it's GOOD...Giggle GIGGLING 😊
