can it record video in mp4 format or mov format?
Out of the gate it will record in XAVC - but if you take that into a video editor you'll be able to export that into one of those options
I really wish they'd release a new camcorder, this is 6 years old now.
They released the Sony AX-53 this year

Very good tutorial, but for anyone looking to buy this camera don't, it is a dog. Buy the cheaper action cameras like the insta x2, x3 or Gopro max. Why, this camera overheats, turns itself on in stored and is flat when you come to use it. The hystergram is useless only on the phone. The flat colour is not flat enough and the low sharpness is not low enough. It is heavy and awkward to use. Yep the acclaimed extra Dynamic range is there but it is slight and not worth the extra money. You still need strong good light for this camera to give good results. Not worth the marketing hype. Worst camera gear purchase i have ever made. 🤔
