i didn't pay, but i've just checked the website and i got the same thing- i think within the last few months they changed it so that you need to pay to access the colors >;( i'd recommend either using a drawing app to create color icons or use photos/icons instead! hopefully that helps <3

A tip for the icons: instad of screenshotting and saving a lot of pictures on your laptop, you can simply copy the imagelink (don't know what it's called in english, my laptop is in norwegian, but it is one of the choices you have when you right click an image anywhere) and when changing your icon you just use the link-function and paste the link there! makes the process much quicker and seamless <33
