How to upgrade a table on a budget (Easy DIY)
I’ve been asking my husband how to upgrade our old outdoor table to something rustic but still make it look expensive and well built. This DIY was a perfect solution to our problem. And it turned out amazing!! I’ve dreamt of a table that we could place on the west side of our house, under our large tree next to the garden with those amazing views. From old table to old world modern table, this garden table remodel project was a group effort and so much fun! It was a dream come true getting this project finished.
In this video, we walk you through all the steps we followed to get the old world charm look for this table. We also linked our supplies below. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have concerning our process. We are happy to help you along if you desire to build this table too!
We found reclaimed wood from a 100 year old barn to build this table with. Oh the stories it could tell. And its story doesn't end yet. I can already smell the fresh cut grass, ice cream cones, and candlelit fires of the summer evenings we will get to enjoy at this table. And it seats 12-14 people at the table.
The wood was at a local lumber shop. They ship this kind of wood all over the country, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. A simple google search and some phone calls should land you on some reputable companies with reclaimed wood available. We also saved so much money building this table and repurposing our old table. I can’t even imagine what this would have cost if we bought this size of table for our garden.
Don’t forget to Like, subscribe and hit that notification bell to get more of our old world DIY content and inspiration.
Products I used or I recommend:
Metal Paint: amzn.to/3W4DZDF
I used a flat exterior paint, and if you would like the color, leave a comment in the comment sections.
I recommend using paint for metal if your base is metal and Rustoleum has some great options. Here is a copper one that I Highly recommend.
Tools for removing wicker:
Good set of pliers: amzn.to/4cLgHbn
Scrub brush: amzn.to/4cn6Mcf
Wood Dowels: amzn.to/3Lq7c5T
Self Centering Dowling Jig Kit (the one we used): amzn.to/4bumukm
Gorilla Wood Glue: amzn.to/4ckc5Ju
Wood Working Clamps: amzn.to/3VHowId
Milwaukee Angle Grinder for trimming dowels: amzn.to/3xEYUUg
Miter Saw for trimming wood lengths if needed: amzn.to/3zwX9sF
Spax exterior wood lag screws: amzn.to/4eJhF9E
Water based Dead Flat Varnish: amzn.to/3zyy54z
Please note that this varnish will not waterproof your table but will help with stains. We cover our table in the case of rain. I would also recommend covering or placing under a covered patio if outdoors.

Year 1 Renovation Progress at the Kitchen Gardens
มุมมอง 191หลายเดือนก่อน
The First year at our home here in Redlands, CA was a whirlwind. We made a lot of progress on our Kitchen and Living area which has allowed us to fit more comfortably in our home as a family of seven. With it came many challenges and a lot of excitement as we finished projects. Living for 3 months without a kitchen was so exhausting. We have many stories to tell including sleeping with a snake ...

      In the water, yes no fertilizer. In the garden bed, just compost, but he didn’t drink from that. I only use natural compost and no fertilizers in my garden.

    • @WifeWantsAWizard
      @WifeWantsAWizard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Thekitchengardens Compost is compost. You want to look up volatile organic compounds and how they mix with atmospheric nitrogen to create ozone. Also, as the water splashes the soil it can release the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease.

    • @Thekitchengardens
      @Thekitchengardens 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jaycee9406 hi, you can use this method for any potting soil. I do recommend getting the richest top soil you can find though. If you have some on your property that is wonderful, but you may have to purchase top soil at the store. Also, I recommend buying organic potting soil for your pots if it’s a small amount. My method is best for large applications of soil and will save you money only if you are planning on needing a lot of soil at once.

    • @Thekitchengardens
      @Thekitchengardens 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that is how all plants are made. True. But not all plant seeds are created equal. Let’s take a seed from a fruit tree. Only a small percentage of these seeds actually produce trees with good edible fruit. So this method isn’t true for all plants. In fact with most plants I know, seeds must be treated with special care in certain ways to create a plant. But cilantro is uniquely different in this way. You should try it! If anything it’s fun to do!
