Veil of Sound
Germany
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 มิ.ย. 2021
Veil of Sound is your new webzine for independent music offside the shiny, glittering mainstream releases and all writers for VoS are fascinated by music offside the beaten ways of bubble-k-pop-dance-techno-whatever-nonsense. This is a page by music aficionados for all you nerds out there. Our first goal is to release one review every day and an interview every week.
We - that is a group of writers from all over the world, located on three continents with a passion for music that is insatiable and always needs new input to keep our ears, minds, and souls busy and buzzing! Highly welcome is the fact, that the musical interests of our writers are widespread and therefore we can cover lots of different music from Avantgarde-Pop to Brutal-Tech-Death-Metal, from elegant Post-Rock to furious Black-Metal. What you will not find here are reviews for records that are run-of-the-mill chartbreakers.

Interview with Kerretta (Golden Antenna Records)
Ten Years After. Wait, no, don't worry. We are not gonna talk about the old British blues band, no today we are talking with David from Kerretta and the ten years after refers to the time between their last record "Pirohia" and the new one called "Angelm" which will be out next Friday, October 18 via dunk!records. Yes, the informed ones will remember that they used to release via Golden Antenna Records, but then you will also know why this change was necessary. We talked about the way the band works nowadays that one part in in New Zealand while David lives and works in London. He also explains a lot about the way they compose songs and what he is looking for in his songs. A wonderful interview with a musician, who surely has a lot to say!

Interview with Geoff Farina (Karate)

"Fear Inoculum". "The Sciences". "Chinese Democracy". Three records which needed a lot of time to follow its predecessors, but none of them needed as long as "Make it Fit", the upcoming record by none other than Karate, one of the absolute Indie-Rock institutions of the time around the millennium. The trio took some time off after Geoff had lost his hearing and then only due to a number of stra...

Interview with Raygun Busch (Chat Pile, The Flenser)
มุมมอง 2.2K21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Usually we try not to outrun ourselves, try to stick to our initial plans. Initially we wanted to release this interview in two weeks (as you will also hear during the chat), but after having listened to "Cool World" again and again, I wanted to get this out ASAP. When talking to Raygun Busch about his band, Chat Pile, about the ideas behind his lyrics, the guys' way of songwriting and much mor...
Interview with GEWALT (Clouds Hill)
มุมมอง 9214 วันที่ผ่านมา
Decades ago George Orwell coined the term "Double think", which was translated into German as "Doppeldenk". That itself is the title of the new record by German Noise-Post-Punk band Gewalt, which is the last project of former Surrogat mastermind Patrick Wagner, who went into a long creative break before he started Gewalt like nine years ago. In our interview he comments that in that moment when...
Interview with Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu)
มุมมอง 2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
When listening to Xiu Xiu you are either automatically disturbed or automatically enchanted. The former maybe because you feel as if music needs to serve your expectations - it doesn't. The latter because you know that Jamie and Angela, the Xiu Xiu core, are able to always come up with a, miraculously new, idea, new soundscape, new aesthetic. Not one of hate, albeit, but rather one of trying to...
Interview with Mack Chami/God is War (Profound Lore Records)
มุมมอง 14421 วันที่ผ่านมา
Listening to Mack Chami's project God is War can be regarded as overwhelming, but if you listen carefully, trying to look past the harsh stuff, you will find a special kind of flow, one that the average metalheads do not come across very often. Talking to Mack is a pleasure as he clearly and poignantly articulates his experience as a Christian Lebanese-American, his position in US society, how ...

We love to try out new things here at the Veil of Sound and when my friend from the wonderful Discipline PR agency asked me about doing a video interview with Hyper Gal, who are going to release their new record tomorrow, Friday September 13, I was positively surprised as I thought the two Japanese women would not be open to do something like that, but then he told me that there was a chance of...
Interview with I Hear Sirens (Post.Recordings, dunk!Records)
มุมมอง 62หลายเดือนก่อน
Sometimes there are bands whose magic is hard to describe. They might not be virtuosos like the polyrhythmic Tech-Death masters we might feature or the heaviest of riffsters seen here. But they can weave sound carpets you just simply want to bathe in, because it all sounds so soothing - and Salt Lake City-Post-Rock band I Hear Sirens surely is one of them. Their songs have warmth but also stren...

Surprise, Surprise! Well, yes, we said there will be no interviews published by us in August, but hey, if we can give you an interview with Shane Embury, who would complain, right? In this interview we focus on Shane's project Dark Sky Burial which released a great record back in July on his own label Extrinsic Recordings. We talk a lot about the new record "Solve et Coagula", his interest in J...
Rule of Two - Year Zer0

A year or so ago Ronny Flissundet and Kristian Liljan began to explore new musical ideas outside the metal genres they had been playing for the last 20 years. They participate in hard-hitting well-established bands like KITE, Damokles, and Dunderbeist. They dug into the 80s Dreampop, and threw in some Darkwave, synth-pop, electronica, a hint of industrial, and more to create a melodic genre-ben...

As we already told you on Sunday, sometimes one has to reschedule - therefore we leave for a month and yes, we want to go out with a bang, and which band and record could be more suitable for that than Thou, their new record "Umbilical" (out on Sacred Bones Records) and their singer Bryan Funck? Right, probably none! So, let's dive deep into the new record, its meaning and theme and where to pl...

I loved Batman forever as a kid
I’m really impressed with his knowledge of underground music. Dude for sure knows his stuff
Shut the Door is the best Fugazi song for sure
Minutemen all day
Raygun is probably my favorite vocalist ever
That is definitely not a bad choice. Hope you like interview as well?
Chat Pile shirts are fucking dope. The shark one is my favorite art. Raygun looks like he smells like beer all the time 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hmmm I don't think the last one is a nice thing to say. And I know for a fact, he doesn't.
I would love to hear a whole interview where Raygun talks about books. Also, very glad Jesus Lizard was mentioned, because they are the band I probably think of most when I try to compare Chat Pile to older acts.
I have been thinking about that ever since we did this
awesome interview !
Great interview, as always. Thanks for this @thorstenschaeben208. I really liked the previous album and got to see Chat Pile live at Roadburn 2023 in that small secret gig they did before playing the main venue. Wasn't supposed to see them and was really impressed with their live performance, Raygun is an incredible frontman. Cool World takes their sound even further, it's a brilliant album.
Thank you Sonia! Saw them at RB 23,too. And will see them again next year.
@@thorstenschaeben208 Maybe we'll meet you there 😉
@@soniamendes5345 would love to, just come over and say hi, if you see me!
@@thorstenschaeben208 absolutely 😊
@@soniamendes5345 looking forward to it
This was great to listen to. I love that Raygun gave Fugazi some shine here (The Argument all day for me).
We shine a lot of light on Fugazi here in our interviews. The one with Three Second Kiss also had some Fugazi talk in it. They're just such a pivotal band!
Mrs. Doubtfire is the best and bleakest Metal Shirt I have ever seen!
For sure. Best black metal shirt ever. Did you notice the question at the end related to the shirt?
Mrs. Doubtfire shirt is so something he would wear haha
Definitely! Loved it, too. Did you notice the question at the end related to the shirt?
I was wearing the mute neighbor shirt when I watched this lol
Great shirt. Hope you like the interview as well?
@@thorstenschaeben208 yeah it's great !
Great interview with a rad dude!
Thanks man. Hope you like some of our interviews as well?
@@thorstenschaeben208I subscribed and will definitely check out your channel going forward. Thanks!
@@danielyanke9689 thanks a lot. Means a lot to us!
Chat Pile and Raygun's perspective just totally resonate with me being from this region of the Plains. I think they're an important band for these times.
Even though I am from Germany, I also get this perspective! And I hope more people do so, too
Interviewer tryina get Ray on a watchlist with these questions 😂
well, actually I wasn't .... but I also think, Raygun won't bother, as he seemed to be pretty clear and open ... hope you like the interview!
Raygun Busch for president 🤟
Maybe the best alternative if it was one...
I'm from the midwest in the US in a very red state and what Raygun said is how I feel. If those of us who are progressive run away from our roots and move to liberal mecas than there would be no-one else to provide the counter perspective to an overwhelmingly conservative population base. It's a lot harder thinking and defending the way we are when you are surrounded by people who vehemently disagree with you....but we still make progress with people around us even though, many times, it's very small.....like changing someone's mind on 1 topic. If anything, maybe those in the liberal bastions should leave their comfort zones and join us in the frontline battle of thoughts and ideas? Anyways.... Love Chat Pile for their sound, their message and for representing those of us in forgotten middle America. Their anger is my anger and I couldn't pick better messengers.
Very good statement and a mighty interesting point you are making. Hopefully our interview is to your liking?
@@thorstenschaeben208 Wonderful interview. I just discovered you from this video and subscribed because I love your style and would love to see more of your content.
@@1977punksunite well, we got a large backlog of interviews with minimum one being added next week! We still got some really cool ones coming this month! Happy you like it!
Love this band
Hope you love the interview as well?
I do! It’s a really well done interview 👍
Soooo glad that dale can do THAT to alllllll those women and still have a viable career. Its ok everyone just keep ur eyes on diddy hes the bad guy right?
Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips is another fantastic Xiu Xiu album. I can always count on them to take me on a sonic adventure, whether it's a scary adventure or heavenly bliss, or both. Jamie and Angela, and the other bandmates over the years have been very creatively courageous and musically brilliant. Jamie is a great interview! I appreciate their candor and engagement with the questions.
The new album is obviously good Glad you like the interview as well. Maybe you'll find a few more interviews you like in our archives?
Raygun has wayyyyyyyy more going on upstairs than Jello does. 😮
But he would humbly deny that Jello only seldom would.
Grimace in his bedroom

Whats up with all these god damn interviews??? I want to see this motherfucker shred. He's fucking RAW with GWAR. No joke..
best metal band of the decade so far… seriously tender masculinity and humanism at its best
Good way of describing them
jamie and then raygun in a month THANK YOU!!
You are welcome but wait what else we got this month...
great interview, excited for future projects
One can always be excited about their new stuff and ideas. Hope you like some other interviews from our backlog as well?
This interviewer is so charming lol I’m glad Jamie seemed to enjoy their time with him.
Now you make me blush like I was back in High School. Thank you
where's the link to the label?
Right there in the desription?
An interview with Scott, a rare treat.
Love you both!!!
Love you too Captain Canada!
Awesome interview, everything Will touches is gold! FFAA are one of my favourite bands. I checked out both END albums and they're so good, encouraged me to check out more hardcore stuff. But would love to see Will collab with Mastodon for sure 🔥
Mack is the man
Great band and sound!! 👌 Haven’t listen on the new album tho, what i can remember so far! Have to much music waiting in the wishlist! 😅😂
Oh you are in for a treat! Such a great record! We also got a review of it up on our website!
Torsten always have tons of insights, very thoughtful guy he is.
the video just about to start and suddenly I'm presented to and ad inviting me to an Oasis tour. So fitting
Quite a surprise for Silver Mt. Zion... 😱 BUT... I can't blame Torsten! He's a genius, so he surely invested his time in the right place! :) Forgiveness is a gift! ;)
Well, it's his choice, right? 😊 Would you have chosen any of those differently? Or with a different explanation?
Unica cover sbalorditiva e coinvolgente. Bravissimi.
Here's one: Steve Miller Band or Chicago (w/t Kath)?
If you ask me - SMB
I liked Codeine already but an Iskra shirt puts it way over the top.
Tommy fucking rules Hail Grodius 🤘
Cool
doomgrass
Colin looks healthy and younger here, probably because he doesn't have a beard.
Well, even though I sport a beard (as you see) - I have to agree here. 😊
Hope dude is being sarcastic about modern country
Holy crap. He knows florida Georgia line. Dudes tastes are straight trash
@@fuckcensorship69well, hope you can live with it. I also know FGL. And as a palate cleanser... There are worse choices.
Great interview. Thank you
The video for HOLD ON is definitely a car culture moment💜
For 10 years I was obsessed with Xasthur, still appreciate it immensely and the memories of being impacted heavily by his music are nostalgic. He just has a way with writing, and evoking emotion from a listener. This guy brought me to an entirely different world through his art and I will always love Scott for that. I hope he's doing well and I hope he finds success from his talents.
Hey! Hope you like the interview as well?
Love this guy ❤❤
Great to hear an Interview with Scott Connor of Xasthur the last Interview I saw with Scott was the One Man Metal Documentary by Vice it's nice to hear he doing OK also It would be great if you could do an Interview with Russell Menzies AKA Sin Nanna of Striborg.🤘🏻🔥👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback! Will try to get that one done!
I was a fan until they started discriminating against people not wanting the jab 2 years back during the great pan((dem))ic. UNIFORM, their bandname alone speaks volumes.
