A song by Simon & Garfunkel performed by David Bowie on The Concert for New York City in 2001. A self made clip created entirely from the footage of the original video by means of rearranging it. More Bowie stuff on my older channel: www.youtube.com/@shaxan
Awesome
The greatest rock singer. Ever.
The greatest full stop ❤
David makes you fall in love (with his voice) and breaks your heart (with his sincerity) at the same time.
So special ! When he left us, a part of me went with him to be with the Starman !❤
I miss him, his lovely voice and creativity ❤❤❤
America. Haunting to remember this time and events. To those that don’t know, this was so important for us. We are still losing those who served as first responders. Peace and respect.
❤
ボウイの声は素晴らしい。幅と深みとあじがある❤
Paul Simons lyrics and music plus David Bowie . Perfection.
You can see the emotions of the next lyrics on his face well before he says them. A brilliant artist and communicator.
He tried so valiantly when like us realized everything matters . Miss David Bowie
Genius he may have been but he made the same mistake I made for years, i e. assuming the man in the gaberdine suit's camera might be in his bowtie, and not his false eye!
The world a true gem…I don’t say “true gem” lightly! Many years of musical brilliance…what a nice turn for this tune!
wow, i've never seen this before! Lovely!
Fantastic.
Genius is an oft used expression nowadays..But in Bowie's case there is no greater truism.
Raw…as only David Bowie could do. Gut wrenchingly beautiful😢😢😢
In 1973, I was a sophomore in high school. I’d joined the yearbook staff. Senior Tom Kordich brought into the yearbook office his LP of Hunky Dory. It was the the first time I heard David Bowie. I was crazy about Tom’s sister, Laura. She didn’t care for me. Now Bowie is gone. IDK about Tom or Laura. And here I am…old. How did this happen? Where did you go David? Am I soon to follow?
he's always just been there...I mean he started off in the sixties and he still sounds and looks the same. Now that's a successful career 👍🏻
A great tribute to NYC's people and America at its worst of moments. Rest in Peace to the lost on 9/11 and you David Bowie.
I still can’t believe that David is no longer with us.
I never will. He’ll always live in my heart though, as he so clearly will in yours.
Special
A truly haunting cover made all the more poignant by the backdrop of scenes/vistas from a city that only weeks before had witnessed a rain of death and destruction from the sky as well as by Bowie's exquisite, emotion-laden phrasing. We lost a tremendous giant with his death!
Dreadful
ужасная озвучка: бу-бу-бу, слов в диалогах почти не разобрать..
The circus style backround music is inventive but doesn't really match the song.
You need Jesus
Was at this show, and of all the incredible, and heartfelt performances, this towered above all the others…
A good version, but I’m really attached to the original. Maybe it’s the (two) Michigan references. Also, this song should not be played ironically-Bowie can’t help himself-since it’s really a heartbreak song. Check out First Aid Kit’s cover of “America”. Paul Simon was there and gave the sisters a standing ovation.
just a great talent
An outstanding version of what was already a great song
What a loss
Just no words.
And the moon rose Over an open field.... A Flannery O'Connor-like moment of epiphany, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. The veil between the mundane and the transcendent is lifted, revealing deeper truths.
I miss this beautiful man being on the earth. 💔
Pure genius.
What a genius he was
Great rendition. However it reminds me of the unbelievable musical ability of Paul Simon's vocals
Wow, never saw that!
One of the last of the great artists...rip.
Beautiful interpretation..brings a whole new depth and meaning to the tune, it's got that tinge of sadness to it , along with love. ..thank you David ❤️
Not only was he a most talented human being,up there with the best,he had so much style.
I never knew Bowie covered this song. He brings something very different to it.
Ret .NYPD, David Opened The Concert for New York with this magical ,chilling song. God Bless David Bowie.
Superb, quite Superb. Sang for the Yanks in their time of need, but with his 'non superstar' London accent front of stage.
So perfect in his minimalist interpretation
Ooh, I'm a great fan of David Bowie, but I HATE this!
Breathtakingly, heartbreakingly beautiful. Only David could have made a legendary song his own. ❤️
Greatness ❤
the man was a genius.. a beautiful rendition and what balls to play this song as the opener to a televised charity concert.. he has so many hidden treasures in both live performances and rare album tracks... bless him
It's about the promise of our nation.
