Whenever you have a material you want to print on that’s questionable, call / email your supplier and ask them what the proper ink treatment is. You don’t need to understand the chemistry between the ink and the material! You aren’t a chemist, you’re a screen printer! Keep it simple and use this problem solving technique to solve your ink/material needs in the future.

We used a water-based ink because we wanted to scrape it off for future testing

Thank you. We collaborated with local sign painting experts Need Signs Will Paint. They applied the gold leaf, let it dry, and then we printed the black backing over the leaf. Once the black backing was dry, the rest of the gold leaf was brushed off and only the area that has the backing remains. I believe the black backing (what we printed) is a OneShot based enamel for screen printing.

Sup - we used a 110 mesh on those so that the ink would drive inbetween all the ridges of the hat. We found that curing the hats at a lower temp was critical because overheating the knit causes the hat to lose elasticity.

We use mineral spirits to clean the enamel. Once the enamel is off the emulsion, the rest of the cleanup is the same.

This was a while ago but I think it was shot with a GoPro Hero 8

A 110 mesh will leave a lot of ink down on the koozie. If you don’t have a lot of detail in your design, that may be ok. Personally, I would start with a 195 mesh for koozies and work up from there depending on the detail.
