The choir has really voiced it 🎉❤ "HOW GREAT THOU ART"

I remember hearing it for the 1st time and was immediately struck by the music of the 3rd line. Monk simply stayed on the 5th note of the scale and descended to the 2nd note, affording a resting point at the supertonic minor, which is actually quite unusual in the contemporary compendium. Sometimes a composer finds a moment of beauty like this. It’s a tune that certainly abides with us!

How great though art is very good hymns really.

Very nice, I plan to use this for a memorial service for a group of Huguenot descendants.

For me, the wonderful Ralph Vaughan Williams tune for this hymn will always be the one that I love to sing this hymn to. But the one given here is also lovely. For the record, the RVW tune is also based on a much-loved Irish melody. The world be so much poorer without Irish folk melodies.

This was 300 years before the Reformation.

One of the shorter stories.

one of my favorites.

So at least two hymns came from the 30 Years War.

So many hymns came from Germany.

A hymn more well known than the historical period it comes from.

It is interesting hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version of the song which goes; God in his glory blessed deity, instead of God in three persons blessed Trinity. So, the anti-trinitarian Mormons found a way to censor ah that part out.

I like Christy Nockels' version of this song.

One of the most important songs ever written

This hymn always moves me to tears. The words so beautiful.

I would love to get a score of this production of Psalm 23 for my church choir to sing during a worship service. I am a Presbyterian, part of the same Calvinistic religious tradition as the Huguenots. Is it at all possible for me to purchase such sheet music?

Many times during a storm on sea while serving in the US Navy I would sing this hymn for comfort. ❤

Beautifully done!!! I had heard this story many times as to the same time frame. At my dad's funeral, we sang this wondrous hymn. He had been an old time song leader for so many years!! He was born in 1920 and went home in 2014--a bit over 4 months after my mother. They had served the Lord together for almost 74 years of marriage. I told this story after the song. We all love it so.

Please pray and consider the fourth commandment KJV is reminding us of Genesis 2:2&3. Jesus is our example.
